on the other hand, has anyone seen that old Twilight Zone episode where the earth is getting closer and closer to the sun, and everything is slowly melting. then you find out in the end that the main character is actually really sick with this horrible fever and the world outside has actually been thrust into a second ice age and everyone is freezing to death. that was a pretty bad ass twist.

That wouldn't work; people are a hugely inefficient means of producing energy (just think how much food is consumed by a person before becoming an adult). Sure, you'd make money while you're still working through the current population base, but there are only so many billions of adults currently alive that you can slaughter before it starts cutting into your customer base, and your profits. Besides, how do you convert a person into liquid fuel anyway? Be prepared to sink a lot of money into figuring one out.Spiner909 said:Ever played oiligarchy? The 'human batteries' concept from The Matrix is flawed in essentially the same way. Even if you liquefy the dead to nourish the living, without crops (which the machines don't have, because there's no sunlight) you'll never have enough food to sustain all those people.
You'd be better off converting all the arable land in the world (or maybe just in certain parts of the world) into ethanol-producing crops and letting people starve instead.

My old astronomy teacher once told my class that if the earth stopped rotating we'd all be flung east at 700 miles per hour, through buildings (which would most likely also be flung) and the speed would be enough to kill us anyway, so this is how I choose to believe the world ends.
My guess is that the Earth, or at least most of it, will be destroyed during the epic final battle between me and my longtime archnemesis, Fred Phelps. After that, mankind will flee the then-inhabitable Earth and set up colonies on different planets across the universe.
