How would Assassins Creed implement firearms?

Brotherhood just came out and it is awesome and stuff and we a psyched for AC3 but think, Sooner or later they would have to have fights in the future and I don't believe that the Templars and Assassins would be going at it with Batons, Hidden Blades are good, Sure but they are a staple of the series itself, I don't want Assassins Creed to become one of those "Samey" Shooters that are clogging up the market and evidence already suggests Assassins use guns.

Besides..Why would you NOT want to play as this guy?

Well the whole idea is to kill the taget and get away unseen.

I see a balance issue if the AI got equipped with firearms and you don´t, on the other side it would make the game diffucult for once.

If they do include guns, they need to implement very clever design for it not to be yet another 3th person coverbased shooter.

I liked how they implemented the hidden gun-blade thing - by making it useless. If there's no reason for you to use it - because of limited ammo, terrible accuracy, slow reloading and flow breaking slowness - then there's no way of it becoming "another" of those shooters on the market.

Probably by making them loud, hard to conceal, and situational. You just can't blend into a crowd if you've got a sniper rifle hanging from your shoulder.

Technically, there's already a gun in AC2. But, for future, the might make it that you can only use sniper rifles and have a CoD like "Hold Breath" thing

So if you're cornered by Templars? You would pull out....A sniper rifle.. Huh.

I think AC3 will be more about avoiding huge fights, cause if your cornered by templars all you can do is smoke-bomb + leg it or get ripped to shreds.
Would a replacement smokebomb be a flashbang? t'would make sense.

"We need him alive!"

Done.

Woops, I think I may have failed to read your post. I'll get back to this. =]

Edit: "We need them alive!... But less so, so stabbing is okay!"

Nah kidding, maybe the templars invented lazer guns... and Lazer gun dissabling devices.

Okay fine, I don't have the answers, but I'm sure one could easily be woven into the story and I'm not particularly keen to play a FPS version of Assassins creed.

I think it will be like it is now?a beastly weapon that is used in exceptional circumstances. I still think the 'modern day' game will rely on blades and gadgets to achieve the goals because that's the whole point of being an assassin and the reason why Desmond is learning all these skills.

We know that the Assassins not only use guns, but that they use machine guns as well as slick pistols and snipers: near the end of AC1, some assassins try to break him out of Abstergo and vidic plays the audio tapes -- you can hear a fire-fight with machine guns from both sides.

I hope that the next AC focuses a lot more on stealth, and I hope they also make it so although you CAN carry big huge assault rifles and snipers, if you are seen on street level with them you'll get the cops on you.

Also, I'm hoping that, even in the modern day, most of the combat will be melee and based around gameplay in which you utilise the bleeding effect -- in the AC:B multiplayer, the templars have given themselves all kinds of groovy powers using the bleeding effect, however i guess the implication is that those only work in the animus. I'm hoping they decide that the bleeding effect gives a kind of hive-mind effect so you can manipulate people's minds with it and give them illusions and stuff like that -- would make the game VERY interesting in terms of gameplay, instead of a bad third person shooter with ridiculous auto-aim (if the existing gun-like weapon is anything to go by).

Just having fucking baton fights for the whole game would be fuckign awful though.

That would be pretty cool, but they would all have to be silenced and what not as to not be detected, so mainly small side arms you would be equipped with.

I would assume that Ubisoft would take a page from its own book, and pretty much turn AC like they did with Splinter Cell. And make it a semi stealth/semi shooter like Conviction was.

The only thing I think they would include is a silenced pistol, or perhaps a sniper.

Interestingly, even silenced pistols are supposed to be quite loud in real life, they're just quieter than the deafening BANG of a non-silenced one. That's why it's technically called a "supressor", rather than a "silencer".

So I guess they could just have the assassins emphasise stealth over range and keep the guns as an emergency or situational weapon, even if they are "silenced".

I kind of hope they don't give you guns in the futuristic ass creed because I just can't imagine how that would make the game better. If they just made it in to something like arkham asylum I wouldn't mind because I loved arkham asylum just as much as I loved ass creed II.

I don't really want a 'future' Assassins creed either. If ever I've trusted a company not to screw up a franchise, it's this one.

That said, you want an assassin game with guns? Go grab 'Hitman - Blood Money'. Fantastic buy.

If you're an assassin, you'd probably only be using very specific types of firearms.

Sniper Rifle: Mission would be get to a good spot, and shoot the target. You could have a selection of possible perches for each mission, you'd choose which one, and each one would have different bonuses and detriments. The closer the perch, the easier to hit the target but the more likely you'd be found and the more difficult it'd be to get away safely.

Silenced Close range weapons: Pistols, SMGs and the like. This might be implemented like a modern day cover based 3rd person shooter. I could see the Conviction system working well here, you peek around the corner and tell your guy to hit goon A, B and C in the order B, C, and then A. Maybe the key thing would be killing them in the right order. You're an assassin, so you should be extremely good with tools of death. So the use of auto targeting is somewhat acceptable. If you kill the goons in the wrong order, you might have the problem of dealing with the sounding of an alarm or something.

Rifles, Machine guns: I have no idea how this would be implemented. Maybe just a free for all situation, you have no choice but to kill everything!

I definitely see many possibilities for smoke grenades and flash bangs.

There's always the possibility that guns are not implemented. You could always go for one of two ways for explaining this.

1.) Honor code, a true assassin/templar must kill each other close and personal

2.) Device that makes guns obsolete. Think shields in Dune or something that disrupts the function of guns. A small localized "sciencey" field that prevents mechanical parts from moving or some BS like that.

Anyways, those are my thoughts, sorry it was so long.

Performance wise I can't see them adding a gun that's any different to the Crossbow in Brotherhood. Single shot, medium reload time.

The games are set in Europe too, so everyone not having a gun is pretty plausible. On the other hand they might just do it Arkham asylum style, where you get the occasional enemy/group of enemies with automatic weapons and you're basically forced to do those bits stealthily.

I can't see them ever ditching the swordplay entirely though, that's like them getting rid of the hooded protagonist!
