How would you improve a game?

There's some little things I'd add to FarCry 2:
Longer respawn times for guards at checkpoints. They obviously need to respawn (otherwise you'd end up with a shooter game with no one to shoot after a while) but it's a bit too fast currently.
Option to hire your buddy or any of the other mercenaries to help you on a mission - mainly, manning the gun on jeeps or boats.
Have civilians around the game world, to improve atmosphere and perhaps create moral choices.
Motorbikes.
Ability to fire secondary weapon while driving.

Refine weapon loadout system as follows:
Slot 1 can contain any of the weapon types - secondary(pistols etc), primary(shotgun, sniper,AR, etc) or special(RPG, MG etc).
Slot 2 can contain either secondary or primary.
Slot 3 must contain secondary only.
This just makes more sense to me and allows for some interesting loadouts. It's obvious why carrying 3 primary or secondary weapons is unrealistic (unless you're Mr Freeman), but replacing an RPG with an assualt rifle or desert eagle should be fine; just like replaced the assault rifle with a Mac-10 should be.

The really annoying thing is, probably all these changes and more would have been modded in already if Ubisoft had made the game easy to mod. Why they didn't will always be a mystery.

For Dead Space, I would have liked to have seen far fewer enemies and far, far fewer weapons/ammo items. It wasn't a bad game just kinda formula and not...scary. The scariest bits were the hallways where the lights decided to no longer work. That darkness coupled with the horribly weak flashlight made me forget how quickly many of the enemies could be dispatched.

One of the reasons I'm passing over Dragon Age 2 is the fact that I have to play human. One of the big draws of the original was playing one of several races. It added to the narrative somewhat when you are an elf and notice the nuances of bigotry the humans show you. To quote Yahtzee, quoting the game:

'"Hello, you are an Elf" or if you're playing a human you'll likely hear, "Hello, you are an asshole."'

Speaking of interspecies play, why couldn't I play as a Twi-Lek in Knights of the Old Republic one or two? Or an Iridonian? Or a Mon Calamari or (my favorite) the Quarren? Continuing on like this, I can understand why Shepard has to be human but it would have been nice to play a Mass Effect where you can be a Salarian or Asari.

I would let Bioware make Fable.

Bioware Guy: Let's see what you have in the way of romance and human interaction.
Lionhead Guy: *shows him* And with a simple tango and a patty-cake this is my new wife. Great huh?!
Bioware Guy: *sigh* V_V Just go play in the bouncy castle with the rest of team lionhead.
Lionhead Guy: YAAAAAAAAY! *runs off drooling*

Also in Fallout: New Vegas I would have made the Legion more likable, so it's not the clearly evil choice.
I would have made the fort more opulent, I was expecting them to have a palace or casino or the casino Caesars Palace XD Caesar talks about being the height of civilization, but his place is a shit hole.
I would make a Legion companion (Vulpes Inculta would be my choice, he's so weird/creepy).
Last but not least but not least I would completely over-haul Caesar! They talk about him charismatic and brilliant but when I met him he was just some dumb brute - how disappointing.

Resident Evil 5-I would allow you to move and shoot at the same time. I would replace the inventory system with a weight system. And finally I would improve Sheva's AI

Fists. I want more useful fisticuffs in FPS. The only game that makes your fists fun is being the Heavy in TF2 XD

Any FPS would benefit from this if punching some1 was actually an affective way to kill an enemy at close range. Just feel the knives are boring. heh

If there had to be musical sections in Kingdom Hearts II, they should at least improve the songs.
I mean c'mon, Hercules' world's been in every single game, how are these muses not in it?

Black Ops should remove the AK74u. I think the multiplayer is absolutely fine balance-wise until that little wank of a gun comes out.

Remove every weapon added to Team Fortress 2 that didn't come with a specific class update. All these Contributed and Polycount weapons are as unbalanced as buggery, which'd be fine if they weren't being put into a game known for being balanced.

I should really stop blaming my complete lack of skill of any game on balance issues...

In DK Country returns, I wish they could have given you three lives instead of just two. Yea I did complete it but seriously it was very, VERY Frustrating at some points in the game.

Oh my God, nostalgia trip.
But anyway, yeah, I agree with the TF2 stuff.

Frankly, for me personally I still would have wanted to see Ashley and Kaiden get more screentime in Mass Effect 2 or a more significant role or at the very least a better cameo then what was given. I know they aren't the most popular characters but I really liked Ashley in Mass Effect 1 and thus far she and her male counterpart have been ignored and neglected by Bioware.
So while some people, Liara and Tali fans in particular, get to cheer about how great and fairly Bioware treats its fanbase I get to bitterly drink alchohol in a corner and drunkenly slur:
"Nooooorrr theyyyyy donnnnn't."
Because as an Ashley romancer, I'm not feeling the love Bioware.

Also a few more missions in Mass Effect 2 that weren't based on shooting stuff would be a nice change of pace. After a while it started to feel like a chore. And maybe longer and more depth in dialogue with characters wherein even if you didn't want to romance them you could still talk to them.

Also I feel Halo in general needs to start showing more from the Covenant's perspective. Show their view of this whole war, their religion, their racial caste system. The Arbiter barely showed the tip of the iceberg of the potential they have for storytelling and thus far they just find themselves being made standard enemy alien fodder again. In truth, their conflicting views and doomed society based on insane zealotry in religion make for fantastic story telling potential, so let's damn well do something about it.

Also if Lionhead could just return to the original way Fable was put together and structured, rather than the cut down simplified way they do things now, I would like it a lot better. In the first Fable I actually felt like my character was growing up and the game as a whole was better put together and even kind of charming.
Also, either find a better way to convey relationships or don't bother. The interaction between player character and POINTLESS NPC #32451769 has no charm nor chemistry nor humanity, and I certainly don't feel a bond to them and there's no benefit to being married. Not when they actually take money from you.

Also, get rid of the 'jobs' thing, seriously. Just go back to Fable 1's method. Inventory and quest screen, many weapons, quests giving money and NPC's not getting in the way of the fun.

Duel wielding in Elder Scrolls IV and dragons, there weren't enough dragons.

Minecraft: Every 5-15 Miles you travel, you come across some sort of fixed NPC/Settlement. I have ideas for a few of these, like 1) A town full of natives 2) A talking face in a sheer wall of stone 3) A hunter living off of the land who is REALLY good with a bow.etc.

So these NPC's can interact with you (the E key is annoyingly empty in Minecraft so far) and most importantly give you a quest. Like a big, fun quest, depending on the NPC. Again I've thought of a few examples. Remember the giant face in the stone i mentioned earlier? well, one of it's quests may be that there is a hill directly in front of it, blocking it's view of the sunrise. It tasks you to gather enough TNT and blow the hill to smithereens! (you can't dig the hill....just cause) Once you complete the quest, it will give you a super special "magical item" that is specific to the NPC. The stone Face, for example, could give you an InvEdit style Stone block that you can use to lay down infinite stones.

Or if you want, you can fight the NPC's. Remember the hunter? you could not take his quest but kill him (which would be difficult) and on his person you find an arrow with infinite ammo.

Disclaimer: If you read this Notch, (which you probably won't) PM me and I'll give you all the other ideas i have. Screw copyright, Minecraft is awesome. I want it to be awesome'r!

I'd add options for the AI to act in different ways. Such as
-don't use healing items
-conserve ammo
-attack far/near

It's nice to have some influence over the AI, especially when it's such a big part of the game.

Or make it single-player.
Also, RE5 needed zombie-ostriches and elephants. And Wesker and Chris would be less muscular.

And I'd remove every combat sequence in the Prince of Persia;sands of time. I guess making the combat good would be an option as well.

Remove the mainly brown and grey color pallette in most "realistic" games these days. They all look the same.

Speaking of Tali's loyalty mission, I brought Legion with me, and it barely did anything. wtf?
I think that one is a case of the game developers assuming that the players are likely to do things in a certain order, it was still a foolish oversight considering that they changed Tali's recruitment mission if Legion was there.

I am one of those bastards who want realism from games that deserve it. Like from Fallout: New Vegas. Wasteland is a rather depressing place when dynamite is worth shit, and even frag grenades aren't powerful (I needed 3 to kill a raider. Nice going, explosives!). Even if you shoot someone in the head from a point blank range, he will just hold his head like he has a headache.
Well, if you're looking for realism you shouldn't be playing Fallout.

I'm not exactly looking for realism, but at least for me it totally breaks the immersion when a normal human won't die, even if constantly shot in the face. I am totally fine with fantasy and unrealistic stories and such, but when you cant kill someone from a point blank range with a goddamn missile launcher, well, that is just plain stupid and not just unrealistic.

We all do it, all of us who play games think about how it could be improved. How would you improve your favourite games?

Would you improve the AI? Change the colours a bit? Add a new gameplay feature? What would you do to make your favourite games even better? It'll be interesting to find out what you think.
Shotguns. How else does one improve a game.
The Shotgun, AA-12. Have you watched Future Weapons, that thing is scary. You can put a thirty-round drum clip on it -- filled with grenades.
YOU SEEE!!!! DO YOU SEE PEOPLE!!!!

Already every single game in history has become cooler because of this post here!

Commander Shepard with this shotgun - BOOYAAA!! Geth and Collectors
Super Mario - Time to run Bowser!
Duke Nukem - He would marry this shotgun!
Any Game with Zombies - 'nough said!
Froggar - Every car would stop for Froggar with this baby!

...okay okay I'm getting carried away now. But this would be interesting to see in a computer game.

I know it's stupid in the sense that the laws of physics are thrown out the window but if you could one hit kill things in Fallout it would kill the stats and RPG aspect.

That said... explosives are pretty underpowered in the last 2 games and you're right in saying the missile launcher is pretty stupid (a 10mm pistol does more damage)

It was one of the most overpowered guns in MW2 actually. You could clear a room by just holding the trigger down and flicking left and right.

Then again all the weapons in that game were overpowered. Lol.
