Make Conker 2.0 (not really Conker since Microsoft owns that but something like it), thats basicly it, there is no need going guns blazing with a shooter or making an already existing series go dark and edgy when you can actually make something new that.
Yeah, I think that was the only shot they had, looking it up, Microsoft purchased RARE in 2002, but ever since CBFD was remade in 2005 for the Xbox, Microsoft hasn't done anything with Conker, which is probably because they've tortured and stuffed with Rare, but that's getting a bit off topic.

Nintendo needs 'something' for their next gen console (they will make one, one day), to get people to say 'you know what, I might buy the Nintendo (too) this time', because at the moment its either team blue or team green.

Well that, and last time they tried to give Samus more personality it did not end well *cough* Other M *cough cough.*
Nintendo actually built a huge and fairly complex world through the old manga, which they could dig up and modernize if this idea were to float. The Federation Coumcil, Adam, other Officers, Anthony, other Bounty Hunters, and a LOT of other characters of varying species could form a pretty diverse cast. There was a lot of civil war and political talk in the manga if I recall correctly (starting to sound maybe too much like Mass Effect...) Making it an RPG would give more...control? over her personality. She needs to be sassier anyways.

Isn't it the height of selfishness to demand that a child's franchise grow up with you?
Yes, and it's mostly done because people obviously aren't over the fact that games are toys and being toys they need to be focused on the young. Too many companies seem to have lost that and thus are putting too many eggs into one basket.

Oooooor.... just an idea guys, do what the Persona series has done to get itself an M rating and have writing and themes made for mature audiences...

And then slap on violence and gore.
Well in all honesty I think the reason that they get that lovely rated M for mature thing is because of Mara.
Remember, rated M for Mara. XD
Your argument is way to compelling to not agree with though...

Take Mario and ditch the cartoon aspect to it, no one likes cartoons.
So we get him to be like 6 feet tall and a wall of muscle, naturally a gritty cop. To top it off he lives in a rough neighborhood, things turn tragic when his girlfriend Sara Toadstool (nicknamed Peach) gets taken away by the leader of the gang Bow. So he has to charge through alley ways beating up thugs in leather jackets with turtle shell designs, BUT we give a nod back to the original series when missiles drop from the sky and blow holes in the level and he's gotta navigate sewers, then climbs a pipe to go back to the 'overworld'.

^ That's how it should be from now on.

TUNNEL SNAKES RULE.
I am fucking joking

I think you did that wrong. Because i wasn't the one who wrote that.

Well, I think Nintendo Direct just showed how to make a Nintendo M rated first party game.
Hyrule Warrior (a game like Dynasty Warrior).

Anyone else hyped for this?

You can always go play Darksiders 1&2 if you want a mature Zelda game.

Other than that, Nintendo games are so "child friendly" that I can't think of anything that would make their current franchises mature.

Seeing as the tablet controller has all the buttons and sticks of a "normal" controller and it's pretty easy to make a game that barely uses the touchscreen features I'm interested to hear in what way exactly does the tablet negate a developers freedom?

Kirby: Throw some Madoka/Daybreak illusion style horror as an innocent mind like Kirby enters the mind of someone that is so mentally broken and make him completely oblivious despite the lore logs stating otherwise.

Nintendo could easily do that now. To me real mature games aren't that bollucks of guns, boobs, blood, and gore. It's about exploring themes that kind of hit reality on the head. For something to be "Rated M" it would have to be violent and stupid to the most idiotic degree. If not idiotic shove a lot of blood and gore in your face, topped with plot pancakes.

Basically what I'm saying is, unless the blood and gore violence actually has relation to the plot at hand, Nintendo isn't going to do it.

Or they can give realistic blood splashes in Zelda games as an easy M score.

Only way would be for Nintendo to give some devs from their stable, freedom to create what they want. Otherwise they are banking on indies, who they once didn't want to know unless they were a legit business with offices. Problem is that Wii U is still very limiting in what can be made for it. The tablet controller also negates any true freedom in creating the game a person wants to create.
The Wii U controller is no different from the pro controller in terms of button mapping.
And considering how not only they don't have to use the Gamepad screen, but they don't even have to use the gamepad period, it's pretty clear that your making unfair, untrue, and biased claims against Nintendo just so you can rant on some unfounded problem some more.

Yeah, I'm all for the more graphic Fire Emblem. Or more Fire Emblem in general.

I don't really feel the world would be richer for having Princess Peach shooting skag in a mass child grave to try and black out the memory of being raped by a lizard while her plumber hero was in hospital after abusing massive amounts of prescription pharmaceuticals to mask the recurring symptoms of excited delirium and e coli poisoning.

Beyond being horrible, it just sounds silly. Over the top example, but you get the picture.

Nintendo has never been a story forward kinda company, save in grandiose, cartoonish, epic strokes. That said, they might actually get somewhere teaming up with Square (circa 1994) or Atlus (nowadays) and doing Zelda or Metroid or Earthbound in a 'loss-of-innocence' / 'coming-of-age' kind of sombering tale.

As an EXTREME alternative, they might consider generating some new IP that would better fit a mature story.

Zelda could certainly be bumped to a T
They already did that. It was called Twilight Princess and it was awesome!

OT: I'm gonna have to go with the general consensus here and say Metroid. It already has that Halo-ey feel to it. All it needs is a darker tone and some gore and BOOM! You got yourself an M rated game that is essentially Halo for the WiiU.

Huh. Could have sworn it was E. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly; it was dark, but I don't really think there was anything in it that was inherently child inappropriate. Weird.

Nope, Twilight Princess was the first and only Zelda game to ever be rated T for Teen. In the past they used to be rated E, but nowadays they are rated E+10.
Nintendo tried capitalizing on the fact that it was rated T when trying to sell the Wii to gamers.
