I'm 15 i would date some one who is 19 but from the public view it's wrong. If you want to avoid controversy then stay away.

2 years is my limit. I'm 19 but I really wouldn't date someone still in high school...As mature as a 14 year old may seem they still don't know a lot and are still very easy to manipulate.
The age difference in this case is the issue more than age itself. That's a too big of an age-cap at that age.
If "dating" you are thinking of wouldn't actually involve sexual things, it would be okay, I think. But would it stay at that stage?
In general, it depends a lot of what we mean by "dating". I know 4-year-olds who have boyfriends and girlfriends, and it's nothing more than playing and mimicking adults, without any sexual content.

Hell, a friend of mine dated his girlfriend from the age of ten (and she was three years older). They're still together.

At least stick to the age of consent for your own country. That would be 16 in the UK. That way, you won't be in trouble legally, and if you both can wait that long, it'll prob be worth it in the end.
A quarter younger would be no go. Seems fair enough, at least to me and it does the depend on the girl/guy how mature they are and such.
A point that I'm yet to come across yet is that she's 14 and thus she, as a person, will change quite a lot. So while you might like the person she is now, she may (and probably will) be a totally different person in the not too distant future. By all means, throw caution in the wind. Have it fail and get hurt. Learn something from it. I dated a 16 year old girl when I was 20 and we were together about 3 years. She was completely different by the end and I was still much the same person. Just some food for thought there.

It's no small thing though, so be sure it's what you want.
There's a couple at my school who are together, and they're both good friends of mine; he's 17 and she's 14. I don't see any problem there, nor does anyone else who knows them. Just some food for thought
