Hugh Jackman Promises Meatier, Thought-Provoking Wolverine Sequel

Wolverine 2 will be dark, says star Hugh Jackman, but ever so good.

There's been quite a few X-Men movies, some great, and others, well, much less great. But Jackman, who rose to fame playing the metal-boned, claw-handed Canadian hero Wolverine, is confident that the follow up to last year's X-Men Origins: Wolverine [http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Origins-Single-Disc-Hugh-Jackman/dp/B001GCUO1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1287608127&sr=1-1] will be the best of the bunch.

Darren Aronofsky - who has worked with Jackman in the past on sci-fi drama The Fountain [http://www.amazon.com/Fountain-Blu-ray-Hugh-Jackman/dp/B000O7667K/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1287608027&sr=1-1] - has signed on to direct the film, and while Aronofsky's work is often characterized as being very dark, Jackman doesn't see that as incompatible with an action movie, especially not one featuring Wolverine. He thinks that Aronofsky's directing, combined with the script from Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, will make for a film that will give people something to think about as they leave the theater.

"This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It's going to be the best one, I hope," he said, "Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different."

The next Wolverine movie will be set in Japan, and will focus on the relationship between Logan and Mariko Yashida, the daughter of a Japanese crime boss. It's a story that will be familiar to many comic book fans - and is considered one of Wolverine's defining tales - but will be new to most moviegoers. Filming is scheduled to begin next March.

Sounds good to me - I really enjoyed Origins, and I can't get enough of miserable protagonists.

I sort of look forward to it. I like Hugh as Wolverine, and this could be good.

But then, Wolverine 1 could have been good. And we all know how that turned out.

EDIT: I think there should be a film about Sabertooth played by Liev Schreiber. He was really, really good in Origins.

The first one may have been an absolute abomination but this one will be the best superhero movie ever because it's all awesome and complex and super dark (but totally not because we want in on that awesome TDK acclaim!).

I can't see anything good coming out of Origins and I doubt I'll ever forgive them for what they did to Deadpool.

I liked Origins until I saw Deadpool. And I liked first two X-men movies. Jackman is really badass as Wolverine too. I'm looking forward to this one. I just hope it doesn't get leaked online like the last one. That was very sad.

Am I the only one who couldn't care less about Wolverine?
Yes, pretty much. Wolverine is (or rather, was for his time) new, bold and has a great lot of character development. Not to mention the fact that he's a break away from the stereotypical American action heroes of today.

I think you're the first person I've seen who actually LIKED Origins.

Oh geez, that over-the-top "menacing pose" pic alone is annoying enough for me to write off the movie, and I'm not even a marvel nerd. It doesn't look thought provoking at all.

Interesting back-story, good fight scenes, solid acting, sometimes humourous, sometimes emotionally-engaging.

Exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got - it ran slightly too long, which is probably my only complaint. The biggest ***** fit seems to be centred around the Deadpool design, but frankly I couldn't give a crap; the old Deadpool's still in the other media, people need to get over it. He's not been ruined forever because of one film's iteration of him.

Origins was alright, but it could've been better. Hugh makes for an alright Wolverine (even though the height difference is kinda.....), but he needs to tap into the more animalistic side of Wolverine we all know and love. Here's to Hugh getting more savage in the sequel...

LOL.
I liked it myself, although I didn't like the ending. Not specifically because I am a Deadpool fan of sorts, but because... seriously, a child could have come up with that plot device.

I too found that person's ignorance quite the moment for hilarity.
