You know... I don't suppose this could actually BE SONY's fault?
That last firmware update had some issues... I had a bit of a problem even CONNECTING to PSN online... maybe the firmware update did something to the browser that isn't compatible with HULU?

We'll wait and see if Sony doesn't quietly release an update that makes this 'magically go away'
Read the article, Hulu has specifically blocked the PS3.
I did read it but I didn't read anything that was an expressed statement from Hulu that they blocked it. I only read THIS

a little experimenting by interested parties showed that the PS3 was being specifically blocked.
What part of that statement is from Hulu?
I tend to base my thoughts on confirmed facts, not speculation by "unnamed parties".
These unamed parties probably took a look at the changes to Hulu, which isn't that hard to do.
Your bitching about Sony is misplaced their firmware didn't stop you from veiwing Hulu. If you removed the blinkers instead of being an asshurt fanboy you might realise that.
I love conversations like these... because they are so adorable in the way they illustrate people's blind, unfathomable hatred for Sony.

But to clarify a few things:

1. I'm not a Sony Fanboy, I'm just an independent thinker. That, and well, I grew up in the kind of generation that didn't quite trust everything they read in a paper, much less in some blurb on the internet.

2. How exactly do you know WHAT those "unnamed parties" took a look at or for that matter how can you be sure they even EXIST? See, thats the big problem with 'independent investigations by anonymous sources"... the fact that the sources are "unnamed" should send up red flags. How do you know those sources aren't the "The Association for Sony Haters" or "Microsoft"? If it were, would that change anything?

3. No statement from Hulu means this is ALL conjecture. Until HULU says officially "we aint gonna let no PS3 show none of our videos no more", there my opinion is just as valid as yours.

4. How does me blaming Sony for potentially F*#&ing up their browser in an update being the possible cause for this classify me as a "asshurt fanboy?" exactly who am I a fanboy FOR? Thats like me saying that Xbox had RROD problems makes me a fanboy. Geez, did you even think about that before falling back on the time-old discredit tactic of labeling people?

5. On that same line of thought, how is positing a counter theory that is a.) reasonable and b.) possible constituted as "bitching"? Sony's recent firmware DID have bugs. That just fact. You do like facts don't you?

Oh wait, apparently not.
You seem very plausible. Credibility confirmed.

I've stopped being so attached to console companies ever since the Game Boy Advanced era, back when console companies were duking it out and there was much embuggerance in the community. That said, if I could actually use Hulu at all, yes, I might be disappointed that PS3 can't show Hulu videos, but since I don't have Hulu I don't really know what to think of the issue at hand. Hulu never issued a statement saying they are deliberately blocking PS3s, and until then, carry on while we try and figure out how to get this firmware to work.

Your in luck, they are making a whole new film franchise!, staring Shia TheBeef as Hannibal, and Megan Fox as The Face. Isn't that exciting?

On topic, maybe Sony will have their own purpose built delivery system, just like the firmware in that you can't do anything for 3 days while Family Guy loads up.
I have only one response to that;

I still find it annoying how people are somehow trying to put the blame on Sony, I mean seriously, c'mon!

the thing is this is hulu's doing and only them. they've blocked out other services before, such as boxee.

tho i love how all the irrational hate is directed right at Sony, with very little proof

It seems more likely Sony is demanding a cut of Hulu's advertising profits and Hulu isn't having anything to do with it. Just look at a number of Sony's other more recent moves to provide additional revenue streams (That 2k netbook, or the price on the PSP Go) Most likely they have been putting pressure on and Hulu called them on it.

Links or it did not happen. We don't know anything about why Hulu is blocking American PS3s from watching their videos, so until we know why, and as fanboyish as it sounds, it's Hulu's fault and no one elses until we know more.

And I will restate, the 2k netbook isn't even targeted at us and it's a special-freakin'-eddition meant for the rich folk. Why do we even care about that?

O RLY? You like FF7 I would never have guessed...
I agree a lot of companies have been putting down the hurt on SONY. Which either means its a giant corporate conspiracy and Bill Gates actually owns Hulu or PS3 has pissed these companies off in some way. One of these is more likely than the other....
lol yes rly omg so serius
(to be honest I'm not much of a RPG or even RPG gamer...)

I never got why companies thought it was a good idea to limit use of any product. I was two clicks from buying Prototype for PC when I found it had 5 installs via DRM. So I "yar matey'd" it instead. I'm not paying for something that's expensive, screws with my PC and furthermore limits how many times I can install it. DRM MAKES me want to pirate, it's ubserd to limit and expect me to pay the same price.

I don't use Hulu so I can't comment on that much but I wanted to get the idea across that limiting your customers (like limited installs, malicious software that slows your PC down) just hurts sales, most people won't care to buy it and if they do want it, you think they're going to buy it?.

If this alleged snub turns out to be true, I wonder if Sony has been in contact with Hulu? What with them sending unannounced charges in the direction of publishers for demo bandwidth, perhaps Sony has also requested money from Hulu to have access to the PS3 userbase.

That was old news, a few months ago. I hardly think that would matter a few months from now. Until we know more, it's Hulu's fault, and really, does it even matter what Sony possibly did to make this happen? An America-only service on the PS3's webbrowswer that nobody actively uses....I mean, so what?

It seems like a very strange move, and I can't think of any good reason for it. Besides trying to beat piracy - which I would assume is part of Hulu's mission - by restricting how and where people can use a product simply doesn't work, just ask EA.
One possible reason is that the media companies don't want access to Hulu to cannibalize video sales through the PS3 video store. I'm not interested enough to actually check, but if some of the same shows are (or will be) available, then it makes sense on some level to prevent their free service from competing with their video sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the same reason the Xbox 360/hulu connection remains a rumor. If it is real, and does release, I wouldn't be surprised if it also has some limitations that the web version doesn't.

Something I'm not getting, why can you not use Hulu outside the US (I live in the US) is it blocking non US ips or is there a different site (like hulu.uk or something) that all of you are going to?
No, Hulu is only available in the US. Something about copywrite laws, I guess the "Commonwealth" and Europe have stricter laws or something.
Actually, one reason is that for many of these shows, European broadcast rights are owned by different, European companies. It's pretty common for publishing rights to be controlled by different companies in different regions, especially when you consider that releasing something in Europe tends to involve a lot of additional localization.

The secondary reason is that hulu is run by American companies with established relationships with American advertisers, and those are the ads that they serve. They're not broadcasting video for charity, they're doing it for ad views, and if they can't easily sell the ads that you watch, they're far better off financially to not pay for the bandwidth to send you video.

This is not the first time Hulu has blocked access to a particular viewing method for no intelligent reason. There has been a constant battle between hulu and boxee, for example. Hulu seems to think that if you play their content on a tv screen, you are violating copyright somehow. Since the ads are embedded in the video, and you can't skip them no matter where they are playing, it doesn't make sense that there is any difference between watching on a computer screen or a tv screen.

I only payed 400 and i got two controllers and MGS4. Thanks to the internet
I paid $500 and got 5 free BluRay movies. Paid $300 for my 360 and got two free games I never play, just as I hardly ever play my 360. Use my PS3 thousands of times more. If it wasn't for my roomate owning only a 360 and us linking our systems together, my 360 would have been a total waste of money. Just wish his 360 wasn't always broken. Oh well. Still beats owning the Wii, but I do have to have them all.

Oh no! A service that I can't even fucking use is not available on a console I don't even fucking have! My world is falling apart!

Just buy yourselves the dvd of your favorite series and watch it! And if you don't want to spend money, go download a torrent or something.
But I can't find an Animaniacs torrent....
