Number of other species humans can interbreed with on this planet = 0

Likelihood of being able to interbreed with an alien species that evolved seperately on a completely different planet = pretty fucking low.
Correction. Number of LIVING species humans can interbreed with = 0.

Some research suggests the Neanderthals didn't actually die out as such. We just interbred with them to the point that they effectively stopped existing as a seperate species.

And as others have pointed out, there are species on this planet similar enough to interbreed.

I don't know how close tigers and lions are genetically, or horses and donkeys for that matter, but it's a fact that they can cross-breed.
Yes yes, I'm well aware of that. Also, why the correction? My statement is true. There are no species on the planet that mankind can interbreed with. Find me one, go on, do it (you do not have to breed with it, although this would disprove my statement).

Point being, pedantry aside, given that there is very limited ability to interbreed with species that are very closely related, the likelihood of being able to interbreed with a species that developed seperately on a different planet = pretty fucking low.

It's been a long time since I studied biology, but the definition of a 'species' is an animal group that can reproduce with one another and produce fertile young - hence why various dog breeds are still dogs, despite genetic differences, but horses and donkeys are not the same animal, despite their similarities.

Kind of a roundabout way of saying how I find Sci-Fi inter-'species' mating quite amusing - if their kids are fertile, then humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Asari, they're all actually the same species, according to definition, like breeds of dogs.

Oh, and I find it pretty darn unlikely that if there are intelligent lifeforms out there that they would have physiology anywhere near that required for a human being to reproduce with them.

congrats on first topic,

anyway, ive been studying aliens in my spare time for almost four years now, theres evidence suggesting that a species similiar to the Dropa mated with evolving apes, and thats where the questionable 'missing link' came in, Becuase with that interbreeding we became a cross between alien and ape.

Thats right. This isnt fact, just a theory being looked into, but I beleive it could be real, and Theres alot of these rumours I dont beleive.

So...maybe...WE are the fucking aliens o_O
...and you found this where?
Picked it up from various documentaries (Hooray for Sky having loads of documentary channels.) And of course, further study via journals and articles I found on the web, and ordered from people halfway around the world.

Im nosy.

Yes. Fine. I was being pedantic. And you're right. There is little actual chance of interbreeding.

Sorry. Whatever. It's a bad habit I guess. (and I could have phrased it differently at that)

Point being, it's incredibly unlikely, but not impossible.

it would literally be like reproducing with an intelligent artic squid or hyper intelligent form of a amazon flower...
1) You wouldn't want to
2) It might not be physically possibly
3) If their planet is like ours and they need to survive in a similair fashion to us they could evolve to the point where we might find them slightly attractive but its an astronomical possibility I'm not counting on... and they could be designed to be attractive to other species to absorb them...

One thing I'm sure of is the Mass Effect girls are horrible because they are a species designed to absorb other species, and whenever I imagen them reproducing it involves their tenticle hair opening up to an impossibly thin head and squid like beak ready to suck onto your face! So even if it were possible it might be better to avoid it because they could be a species that is designed to whipe us out by just being preferable sexual partners, I hope this all makes sense...
