Human Centipede 2 director defends movie as art

I laughed to hard at the title,
but i have to agree with him.
Thats like saying fried potato slices arnt chips, because you haven't salted them yet.
Its a movie. You have no reason to censor it.
If its a BAD movie, then nobody will watch it anyway.
And if your afraid children will watch it,
Thats not your job.
Thats the parents. And dont say,
"Err, well parents cant moderate theyre children all day every day!"

In a day and age where EVERYTHING has parental controls and safety locks, a parent can keep track of everything theyre child does.
While i agree "Human Centipede 2" is a horrible movie, with nothing useful to contribute to society, that doesnt mean it should be black listed.

I personally think that 'art' is interpreted in different ways by different people, in some cases it is a thing of beauty or interest (eg a good painting or story) it can provoke meaningful thought in the viewer, and for this reason sometimes the topics of 'art' can be slightly controversial so as to make the viewer think more deeply about the subject, or whatever.

It is art. I would defend it as such but...I disapprove of the actual movie in all aspects. I have to agree with him, but I don't have to like it.
Personally I wouldn't consider this art, its like calling a crudely drawn cock and balls on a toilet wall art. Personally I doubt even the director thinks this is art and he's just using it as an excuse since now he won't get sales of the dvd of it. But you never know he might just be a really bad director and literally thinks this is a fantastic movie or something.
I love how these threads bring out the hyperbole poets in forum posters everywhere.
And also, fetish porn isn't art. This isn't even a horror movie, it's some freak working out a fetish in a movie he somehow got the money to make. I'll defend most movies as art but lets draw the line somewhere. I'll even say video games are art if it tries to create a compelling narrative (be it story or gameplay) that has some impact on me personally but I'm not big on classifying mini-game collections as art either.

This does neither - It's no unique for one (since there was already a movie like this), it doesn't provoke and kind of thoughts other than "That's gross", it doesn't hold up any window to society, the subject matter cannot be interprated in different ways, it does not portray a thought, opinion or state of mind in an unothodox way.

Human Centipede 2 is art within the medium of film in the same way Bulletstorm or MadWorld are art within the medium of interactive gaming: not really meant to provoke any sort of thought in the consumer, but rather made solely for entertainment, and providing no advancement whatsoever in human thought or understanding, or in the medium itself. No because if you actually read the definition you would have seen that "Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance" and thus your suggestions do not fit under the banner of art.Chairman Miaow said:

Being that "art" can mean pretty much anything under the sun yeah sure, call it art if you want. You don?t have to like it. It?s still a disgusting piece of trash and I?m certainly not going to watch it and honestly would be a bit concerned about anyone who does but whatever that?s my choice.
