so im kind of depressed about something. my gf's family would rather have her live on the streets than let her move back in. not that she did anything bad, its just that they wont. i was always brought up with the good sense to help someone out when they needed it, not turn your back on them, especially if their situation really sucks. This is just the straw that broke the camels back of my patience for humanity. Another example of this is the other day when i was on the bus, it was at a red light, and out the window just as the bus was starting to move forward i could see an old man struggling to open a door to a panda express, and people were staring and not doing jack to help him. are people just naturally inconsiderate fucks or is this just cause i live in california?

Cause you live in California

Also it is my belief that while there are some shit people out there you can't judge the entire of humanity on their actions.

It's just how people are, there's nothing you could do about it.

Let your GF move in with you then, it seems the most reasonable response to the situation.

a good percentage of people are inconsiderate because they hold themselves above all others, I think they should die personally but hey, what can you do there are things in this world we cannot change and only complain about...

There's a lot of jerks out there and there are a lot of good-hearted human beings out there. Doesn't really matter where you live, I've met plenty of both kinds in Tennessee (more of the former than the latter). The thing to do is to be apart of the of the latter so you can feel better and look down on the former.

Um... Not to be contrarian, but are you sure you have the full story in this situation? I find it a bit more believable that there's more to the story and your girlfriend hasn't brought you completely up to speed, than that her family simply said "nope, screw you". Human nature usually dictates that we be helpful to our family (much to my chagrin at times).

Thus, I'm going to call stipulated bullshit, with the stipulation that if there really is nothing else to this story (you might try talking to your girlfriend's parents), I'm completely wrong and they're just jerks.

It's a little bit of both. I'm from california but i'm currently living in japan, and believe me, people do things quite differently here. However, i think that such things are learned behaviors rather then natural instinct. The natural human (and all animals) instict is self preservation, this leads to an indifferences in the needs of others. However, society teaches us ways to overcome our baser insticts, and that, is in fact, what truly makes us human. The conquering of the primal self to become something more.

Well, im canadaian, and i used to live in calafornia. SO let me tell you its a combination of both. here in canada we still have individuals who are complete retards and assholes. but in general, its really quite nice. as long as you want to help your self, there are tons(and I mean tons) of people that will help you acheiv your goal. when i lived in california, every one was too obsessed about posing to car for eachother at all. Butt you had really nice beaches....i miss california.....

Exactly!!! You never hear about the good, just the bad. (Unless it's extreme good, but you know what I mean)

Personally, I believe humanity is a bunch of jerks, but it isn't our fault. It's normal instincts to look out for yourself, and be ruthless. Some have this idea of kindness put into them, which is why they will help out, but it's still the human thing to look out for number one.

Oh I thought this thread would be about Human Nature....

Nevermind....

I hate it when people do or allow stupid shit to happen and hide behind the blanket of human nature....

Why are you so greedy?
-Human nature innit?

Why do you fight people for superiority?
- Umm human nature?

Why do you lie, cheat, and steal your way through life?
- Umm, dunno, human nature innit...

Nope you're just an arsehole, don't make out we all are.

I have to say people in Canada are really nice tho. In New york you get a few nice people but most people are jerks with there jerky little brats. I think it comes down to what kids learn from there parents. Hey mom can do it why can't I?

I'm reluctant to chalk it up to human nature. I think it just varies between people and cultures. In the UK for example, if you live in the South East of certain areas of London, a lot of people treat you like shit (No offence to south easterners and londoners, but I've lived there and I got treated badly), while if you go further north or west, people will treat you nicer.

Same logic applies in my native Scotland. People in Edinburgh will treat you worse than people from Glasgow (Although they're 100 times better than Londoners).
Going for a cross-the-pond comparison, in Britain (Particularly Scotland) kids are taught that politness, manners and friendliness are EVERYTHING. I'm living in America for a year, and I'm getting really sick of the lack of manners I'm seeing. Is it too much to ask to say "Thank You" if I hold the door open for you? (No offence to you yanks...but it's true)

But like I said, different cultures. I suspect your GF might be an isolated incident (I also suspect you haven't got the full story), but the bus thing really all depends on where you are and who is on the bus...
