Hey everyone, I was just wondering, since the general opinion seems to be either the manifestation of Christ or the worst game since Duke Nukem Forever, what do you yourselves think of the new Deus Ex?

you'd probably have more luck looking at the 10,000 other people who have already said their opinions. But if mine means anything...

I never played the first game, so i wasn't quite sure what to expect. All i knew is that the Deus Ex series has high expectations. Turns out it pretty much lives up to them. Other than some challenging boss fights i didn't find much of anything wrong with the game. so 9.5/10?

Second coming of Christ is about right. Well, if you're a Christian. I see it more like of the the best games since the original Deus Ex. There's only one thing people don't like, and it's like 1% of the game - boss fights. And it's really not a big deal.

Pretty much this - reviewers like Yahtzee have it on the money. The game (on the PC version anyways) has a bit of a dodgy keyboard and mouse layout, but it doesn't make it unplayable.

If you want to get started with the Deus Ex series, or have played it previously, I'd recommend this game. This can sit up with some of my favourites in the gallery of games I have along with World in Conflict and Amnesia.

GO BUY THIS GAME.

My impression was more average. The rpg skills/stats are pretty bland. More than half of the sheet is put into sneak and hacking. If you're like me and would rather shoot people then basically the entire level up page is useless unless you count passive 10% bonuses as gameplay enhancers.

The level design is basically small area with a few guards wandering around, and the AI is dumb. So if you are a shooter you basically just shoot 1 guy and wait for the rest to run straight at you like fish in a barrel. Repeat a half dozen times.

I got the game for 30 bucks and played for a few hours before shelving it for later. I'm not upset with the purchase but i'm not really in love with it either.

It's my new favorite game. I fucking love it. I'd say rent it and try it, and if you even think you'll like more, go buy it.

And as for the boss fights, if you want to figure them out for yourself, cool, but if you want the sure-fire way to beat them even on a non-lethal, hardest difficulty run, just ask :D

It's pretty good. It isn't going to set the world on fire, but it's still a fun gaming experience that has a fair amount of depth to it. I'd go ahead and buy it if you are in desperate need for a new game.

*ahem*

The story is wonky.
The voice acting needs work.
The side-missions could've been better and more in number.
The game length is short. Considering it's an RPG.
Boss fights aren't that much of issue really. They do ,however, break the flow.
However, it's one of the best games out this year. You'll not be disappointed. :D

I play on PC. And I'll admit that the default control scheme isn't the most intuitive. But like all PC games, you can change the layout. I did. And now it's perfect. I use Q for cover, alt for cloak, F for takedowns, right mouse for zoom etc. It's an RPG. You build your character according to your liking. It's natural to change the control layout in games like Deus Ex. I seriously doubt that anyone played the original Deus Ex with default control scheme.

Yes.

Now go the hell out to the store and get it.

Okay, longer opinion: it is a very good game, a great one if you like cyberpunk. While you don't have to play Deus Ex to understand (DE: HR is a prequel), if you just don't care much for the genre, it won't do it for you. It is still a very good game on its own, but if you don't care about cyborgs and augmentation and such, you probably won't care too much about what this game is really about.

On the other hand, it has a very good penchant for letting you choose how to accomplish a task, and there are always many ways to do any one thing. (Except the boss battles. All games have flaws. There are only three battles anyway.) Jensen and the secondary characters Pritchard, Malik, Sarif, and a few others are well-rounded and interesting. While it behooves you to be a Good Guy if you want to do all the subplots, you can be a total ass if you'd like. Things you do have consequences; if you kill certain optional people, the game changes. If you don't kill anyone, Pritchard makes fun of you for not doing so. The story is very interesting; the world is just open enough for my taste but isn't so huge you get lost in it Oblivion-style; it has some replay value if you're into trying the different paths such as "don't kill anyone" and "heavy weapons" and "hacker guy."

I'd say don't listen to godofallu -- if you're playing this game just to be a shooter, either be satisfied with not being able to make use of many upgrades, or realize you're playing the wrong game. This isn't a stealth game, or a shooter, or whatever -- it's a mix. If you don't splash multiple paths, of course you're going to lock out some options.

All in all, one of my favorite games. Grain of salt: I'm a huge cyberpunk fan, and also I was a fan of Deus Ex. Otherwise: freaking go play it man.

I love it. The game's an experience on so many levels. It actually changed my perception upon prosthesis, physical handicaps and transplantations. It also has great gameplay on so many levels. It pushes you to the limits of the game, makes you want to experiment and gives you actual choice-and-consequence without a morale-system. There is hardly any black-and-white decisions to make.

And I havn't even mentioned the many links to the real world yet. At the start, there's QR-codes on boxes. Try scanning one with your phone, it's good stuff.

Overall: GET IT. YOU'RE MISSING OUT.

It's a pretty good game that is sadly held back by a number of terrible design choices, which are:
Making the melee attack and Typhoon uninterubtable instant kills, only 3 types of enemies, the cloak, the laser rifle, the endings, the lack of "proper" skills (there's no way to one-hit-kill guards wearing helmets - I think) and, of course, the boss battles including the many ways to break them. Some of these are minor, some game-breaking, some severely restrict particular play-styles.
Still well worth the money - especially since I enjoy breaking games. And that's something where HR definitely delivers.

Well, apart from being able to read stupidly excessive amounts of e-books, implying a greatly detailed world, and enjoying the concept, I've found it boring and the stealth frustrating. I think I just suck with first person stealth. The game kinda forces stealth on you in the beginning, since you don't have enough augments to survive any kind of serious gunfight (even though that's what my stealth usually breaks into), but I planned on doing it stealthy anyway.

I only played it for about 6 hours so far though.

True, but then I did play and finish the game on hard with the default controls anyway :3

You may consider me some kind of macho-sadist.

But yes, as Mr jensen pointed out, if you go PC, you MAY want to configure the contols a bit, much like you may want to turn down the Mouse Sensitivity for Front Mission Evolved.

I'm currently really enjoying it, save for the lack of enemy variety and lack of skills for people that want to kill everyone. Also no melee weapons, that's just annoying.

It's a damn good game though, I am enjoying the plot.

Pretty good. Mind if I shamelessly self plug?

A snazzy Finn and a charming Aussie have a lil' discussion about the subject at hand. ^^

Yeah, sorry, I'll go now.
