I often wondered what our next evolutionary stage would be like. I read some articles on the web, and read various science magazines that said humans are evolving faster than ever. I watched also watched Akira and played Starcraft, and human eventually seemed to have evolved psychic powers. Although this is unlikely, i can't really say whats sure or unsure about humanity's next evolution. I think in the future, we would still look sort of the same, but we would genetically incompatible, sort of like different species of ferrets in Europe, which look similar, but are actually distinctly seperate. What do you think?

I doubt humans will ever evolve naturally again. We have no predators, so there is no reason for us to adapt. If anything, we would evolve technologically and mechanically, rather than biologically.

Actually, as a species we're evolving monstrously slowly. You see, humanity is so spread out over the planet, it takes such a long time for one gene to permeate the whole 6 billion of us. Also, our genes are very diverse because of selective breeding - there's no Survival of the Fittest any more. The last great gene change was when most of the world was killed off by smallpox.

our eyes were never meant to view artificial light (LCD screens, televisions) so I think our eyes would start to change for this change

our fingers might change due to the heavy use on controllers, keyboards, cell phone texting, ect

uh, that's all i can think of

The next big step will be us fusing with our computer. Believe me, this is will happen one way or another.

with the creation of society comes the creation of conformity as a method of survival. if we conform, it is easier to survive in the hostile world of society.
nonconformity is met with hatred from other members of society, and therefore those who do not conform do not survive. imagine if there was a person who could breathe underwater, but looked like Voldemort from Harry Potter. even though he may be more adept for survival than other humans, society would look down upon him for being ugly and not want to mate with him, and he would die without passing on his beneficial survival trait.
therefore, society itself will prohibit human evolution

we've put a hault to our evolution, the only part of us that we will continue to evolve is our minds....

But our environment changes us. For example, people who's ancestors have lived in Tibet or similar high evalation areas have larger hearts and larger lungs than say, people living on low evalation like in the Pacific Islands.

I want my descendants to end up with feeder tendrils where a nose would be and eyes that could see in the dark. Diamond hard claws would be nice, as would and extra pair of limbs, along with a shared sense of brood telepathy which seperates individual groups from the Hive Mind.

I want the next stage of human evolution to be: The Genestealer. (hopefully plenty of people out there get what I'm on about)

technically, there is no next evolutionary 'step'... the change happens gradually from generation to generation.

Now that I've got that out of the way, apparently we're slowly losing our little toe, as there as very little use left for it.

Evolution smevolution, we'll advance ourselves with technology and never find out what evolution would have done.

I have a feelig that we wont evolve much, because the way modern society is going we're making it so that the weak can achieve the same as the strong.

The way evolution works is your body over years (hundreds of years) trashes the "bad" genes and adapts itself to fit its envornment. The weak die out and the strong adapt.

In this world however both the weak and the stong survive, but it seems like none adapts. I could be wrong about this and i probably am in some parts but this is how my mind is thinking at the moment.

Maybe we'll all get smaller fingers that way txting will be eaiser or something.
