I want my descendants to end up with feeder tendrils where a nose would be and eyes that could see in the dark. Diamond hard claws would be nice, as would and extra pair of limbs, along with a shared sense of brood telepathy which seperates individual groups from the Hive Mind.

I want the next stage of human evolution to be: The Genestealer. (hopefully plenty of people out there get what I'm on about)
Sounded like a star-nosed mole to start with. Ya know, one of those tentacle-faced digbeasts that roam the nightmares of small children, stealing their souls with their freaky-deaky noses?

with the creation of society comes the creation of conformity as a method of survival. if we conform, it is easier to survive in the hostile world of society.
nonconformity is met with hatred from other members of society, and therefore those who do not conform do not survive. imagine if there was a person who could breathe underwater, but looked like Voldemort from Harry Potter. even though he may be more adept for survival than other humans, society would look down upon him for being ugly and not want to mate with him, and he would die without passing on his beneficial survival trait.
therefore, society itself will prohibit human evolution
But our environment changes us. For example, people who's ancestors have lived in Tibet or similar high evalation areas have larger hearts and larger lungs than say, people living on low evalation like in the Pacific Islands.
However, our bodies just dont decide to change because of the environment, they change due to genetic mutations. we are, essentially an ultramutated species that is more capable of surviving than the last. thats why Neanderthals died out, because they needed more calories to survive than we did. with that in mind, a genetic mutation that altered somebody's appearance would be negatively received even though their capabilities may exceed that of other humans, society will deem them to be unattractive and their genetics will stand a much lower chance of being passed on. therefore society stunts evolution on a grand scheme
Ah, but wasn't dark skin considered repulsive and second class until about 30 or so years ago?

I doubt humans will ever evolve naturally again. We have no predators, so there is no reason for us to adapt. If anything, we would evolve technologically and mechanically, rather than biologically.
yea the whole bit about natural selection gets thrown out, in theory i should have adapted or died, i have glasses ie crap eyesight, and i am allergic to several substances which some i have evolved to produce defenses since i have eaten them enough.

To make sure humanity is better i should not reproduce thus helping the gene pool to remain slightly fresh.

OT: the next evolution will hopefully be more efficient lungs as our atmosphere becomes more polluted and we will grow taller for whatever reason...

Only for a brief time in certain countries. 1950's America does not accurately represent all of Earth's societies throughout the ages, racism took time to develop and decline. More to the point, dark skins evolved, over time, to combat the cancerous rays of the sun; it wasn't like one person was jet black in a land of chalkies, it took many generations of gradually darker people to produce that paragon of evolutionary achievement we know today.

Stanley Kubrick answered this 42 years ago - we're going to become STAR CHILDEN, and it'll be totally awesome because our entire lives will be accompanied by an epic, orchestral soundtrack consisting of the best in classical music.

In order for evolution to take place, we need natural selection and, as of right now, we don't have that. At least not to a large extent (see Darwin Awards).

Our medical technology has advanced to the point where diseases and disabilities (such as asthma and scoliosis) that would normally have prevented people from reproducing are treatable to the point where those genes continually get passed on. This not only applies to physiological attributes but mental ones as well.

With the possible exception of extreme retardation (which usually has little to do with genetics and is more often caused by other external factors) even people that would be considered slow or have conditions such as Bi-polar disorder or Schizophrenia, more often than not, can reproduce. If the smartest and strongest person in the world has just as much of a chance of reproducing as a sickly and slow person, evolution pretty much goes out the window.

I'm not saying that any of this is bad, but it does put a hamper on the evolution of our species. Basically, at this point, the evolution of our technology has to replace the physical evolution of our race.

So, basically this.

We don't. We devolve. As we gain more advanced health care we lose the need to have high endurance. We might evolve in some ways though. Smarter people will generally be less likely to die in society, and we can evolve through technology as our added research gives us the power of advanced cosmetic surgery. Now excuse me as I go upload Mr.Colberts' voice, a law degree, and buy some angel wings... Harvey Birdman...
Damn you extensive health care! What happened to natural selection!!!!
Anyone who stands between me and becoming Harvey Birdman must be eliminated. No exceptions.

OT: Humanity's next evolution will come from the one thing going for us: Technology. No predators, no mating for purpose of better genes for the future generations (rtards, people with glasses, alergies). Also natural selection is pretty brutal, do better or die. Not the idea humans seem to be going for.

If we do eveolve. It will probobly be the development of powers. i say this because we as a society are getting lazyer, so we will get to a point where we can sit on a couch and pick up the remote with our mind, or light the stove without turning a nob. It wont be evolution to survive, but to be more comfortable

Possibly our lungs adapt to the filth in the air.

Short of a massive alteration in climate or surroundings - say, a meteor strike - we're not going to see anything drastic for a long time, though.

According to Bob The Killer Goldfish, fish are the highest-living lifeform in the universe. (As exampled in an episode of Earthworm Jim where he evolved himself up to a super-brainiac psychic man and then went full-circle back into a fish.)

Well, our brains are going to gradually become bigger and bigger. "Survival of the fittest" often gets confused with physical strength being the most important factor - but nowadays, it dosen't hold that much of importance.

But all biological evolution will be nothing compared to all the wonderful new technology.

One, we will be growing taller. Average height in Humans has been slowly growing since the 1600's.

Second, average intelligence i.e IQ, based of our growing skull size

third, larger foreheads as a result of a greater Frontal Lobe.

But my favorite hope in that we will grow Angel Wings. Who doesn't want to fly? it would be pretty freakin sweet. Unfortunately, unless we purposefully engineer it, wings won't happen. Evolutions motto, "If it works, don't fix it."
That...pretty much explains what I was thinking. But in greater detail, since I'm way too lazy to actually go out and do the research. :p

Otherwise? ...I'd say that 'evolution' is, while going on, starting to be experimented with since we've gotten an almost green-light with genetic engineering.
