What's doubly ironic is that EVERY SINGLE ARGUMENT that's ever been made in favor of piracy is completely nullified here: There's no DRM, the money isn't going to "greedy publishers," it doesn't cost too much, and the tired old, "making a copy doesn't cost them money" is also bullshit, since you're costing them money on bandwidth... and people are still pirating, and giving vague excuses.

And yeah, i'm one of the people who thinks notch is using this as advertising. Throw the whole game in or not at all. Throwing in a two week demo, no matter his intention, seems like he's trying to advertise.

As has been mentioned above: If Notch included free permanent-activation gift codes, people would spam the HiB with $0.01 purchases, and then sell off the gift codes later for full price.

Also, I don't tip.

Ah yes, that scene, which appeals so greatly to cheapskate douches who don't understand that the movie was making fun of them.

You can tell this by that line, "If she don't make enough money, she can fucking quit." Um, no she can't just quit, not in this job market (and the job market when that movie was made wasn't too much better for servers). And in most states, 15% is deducted from commissions on assumption that the person will tip, so yeah, you are stealing money from them if you don't tip. And they HAVE to deduct that amount, because if a restaurant wants to pay its employees a decent wage, they would have to raise their food prices to say in the black, and consumers who can't process anything more complicated than, "Food cheaper here, shovel burgers into face here, durr..." will go elsewhere and the restaurant will go out of business.

I don't tip because I rarely pay for a meal on the occasion that I go out for a meal, so I'm never presented with the opportunity to do so. But regardless, I wouldn't tip for other matters, none of which concern you.

I don't really feel like paying the amount that I think those games are worth (saving my money), so I'm not going to buy it. Just because you can spit in the developer's face and get the games for one cent doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

I typed in 0.01 just to see if it would let me during the 1st bundle, and I have no clue how anyone made it past the "You don't appear to have a heart" bit.

Anyways, as a college student who has had to take a pretty major pay cut recently, my means are lower than normal, but at least I was able to do a nice $5 split.

My guess would be in general Mac users have more money, and Linux users both think REALLY highly of themselves and are just happy to have games that run on their system.

For the record, I was only going to donate $2 or $3 dollars because I honestly have no real interest in these games, but having some of it go to charity and seeing how cheap the average Windows user is convinced me to bump it up to $5. I'm broke, but I'm not heartless. I figure at least one of these would be worth $5. I sometimes spend that on a discount bin game that I'm not positive will be good, so I bet at least one of these games will be worth it (probably Crayon Physics).

It's a nice effort by Notch, but to be honest there can't be many people out there these days who play indie games and DON'T have Minecraft. His $4000+ donation was pretty sweet though.

Shame it's offset by the $0.01 arsehats out there leeching the bandwidth. But hey!

Wow, all the hate because someone admitted to only paying a penny. Guess it's better to not buy at all.

You don't get to advertise "pay whatever you want" and then ***** when people do, it's just part of doing business. Used to sell on eBay, started most of my auctions out at a penny and every once in a while something would sell for a penny. That's just the way it goes but starting at a penny has it's advantages.
