For $5, I got to play a section that isn't in DR2, pre-level my character to level 5, and even got a few achievements along the way. I'd say it was worth it.

I am glad I got it the day it came out. I beat it twice that day, then jackassed around in the town trying to find items and seeing what I could build. If you haven't got it yet I say go and get it.

I loved it, probably the best demo I have ever played and I made me transfer my pre-order from the normal edition on my PS3 over to the Deluxe edition on the 360
I suspect that this is why it's not on PSN. I'm sure that Microsoft promised them advertising or some other benefits in order to keep this exclusive.

if i were to play this without playing Dead Rising, would i be lost?
No. The stories don't connect in any depth. Though if you like Case Zero, you might want to take a look at the first one. If you can't find someone to borrow it from, you can download it over Xbox Live for $20 [http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/f0000001-0000-4000-8000-0000434307d2?cid=SLink], or get it used from Amazon for under $15 [http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000F3AADE/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used].

Best 400 Microsoft points I have ever spent. I have played through that game seventeen times, and I'll be going back for my eighteenth run in a little while. This game is awesome, and what small flaws it has cannot ruin it because of the simple fact that it was only 400 Microsoft Points (the only real flaws I noticed was that it ended, and all of the combo creation montages had the same animation... I'm pretty sure that sticking nails in a bat doesn't need duct tape).

Capcom has a real hit on their hands this time. I loved Dead Rising, but I never actually bought it because I was saving money for other games (I had beaten it, and gotten all endings), but if I could go back in time and buy it earlier, then I would.

Let me guess: you're trapped with a handful of survivors spread throughout a large area and must fight for survival whilst awaiting rescue?

How DO they come up with this?

/waits for some originality
What's threatening in Dead Rising is still not the zombies, y'see, so it's not much use trying to find zombie horror cliches in it. If you're going to try and act world-weary, you should probably check that you're complaining about right things, first.
Replacing A for B in a worn-to-death story platform, doesn't reinvigorate said clique.
Even when the "A" is the "atmosphere of near-hopeless doom" being replaced by the "B" of "a ticking clock that forces an attitude of efficiency"? Like I said, you're looking for the wrong kinds of cliches. Dead Rising isn't a zombie horror, so trying to match up its story elements with zombie horror archetypes will leave you with a lot of parts that don't fit very well.

Thematically, it has more in common with films like The Road, Children of Men, or even the War of the Worlds; stories where the protagonist has to protect himself (and sometimes his young ward) from both the intense, constant danger that the world itself presents, as well as the potential danger posed by other human survivors, all the while moving towards some vague hope of sanctuary. You can accuse it of being a stale retelling of an overused story if you like, but the least you could do is get the genre right.

After thinking about it, while playing Case Zero, Dead Rising has little in common with the survival horror genre typically associated with zombies and the like, and much more in common with old-school beat-em-ups like Final Fight.
Mm. The zombies might be the most prominent feature of the Dead Rising series, but they're surprisingly unimportant to the game as a whole. Like I was saying above, the emphasis is on the "apocalypse" part of the "zombie apocalypse" - I imagine you could transpose much of the game into a Mad Max-style setting, and there would be a surprising amount that you wouldn't have to change, in both the story and the gameplay.

Why do something sensible like that when one can just flail insults around like a spiked bat at whatever is standing nearby? =P

At the very least its the easiest 200 Gamerscore to be had on a downloadable game.

Especially when you compare it to games like Smash TV, or fable 2 Pub Games. And not to mention almost every website that reviewed the prequel game included a guide on how to get every achievement, in case you couldn't figure out what you needed or where to get what item on your own.

and if all else fails... there's youtube videos all over the place showing you what you need to do step by step.
