Apparently the books were pretty good, though I haven't gotten around to reading them. I really do need to read more often, now that I think about it. Knowing nothing about the books, I'd have to say the trailer looks pretty interesting, so it's piqued some interest from me.

Weirdly, I've been seeing references to these books all over the place today, for the first time. Worth reading?
They've become incredibly popular. As much as popular things usually get tremendous praise while being mediocre (at best), the books are actually pretty damn good. They're pretty much Battle Royale, but in a less realistic, though equally horrific dystopian society. It's got pretty well written action sequences, and above average characterization. Definitely worth a read.

I'm hesitant to accuse someone of ripping off a different series, but that sounds exactly like Battle Royale with a few aesthetic differences.
Hunger Games borrowed about as much from Battle Royale as Battle Royale did from Lord of the Flies, that is to say, a fair amount (BR is my 2nd favorite book, BTW). I look at them the way I look at the new Fright Night: It's based off a previous work, but it's still different enough to be judged on its own merits.

As for the movie, they had me as soon as they cast Jennifer Lawrence. She's ludicrously talented and....well...

Even turning her blue to play Mystique couldn't make her unattractive.

Those books were not very good... interesting premise but the main character was a total mary sue... very annoying.

Oh God the BEES.

Not the slimy BEE HALLUCINATIONS Noooooooooo

I really, really hope that's not in the movie.

Katness doesn't look too much like what I pictured, but I have to give Hollywood this one for picking a feesiable looking actress. Who is sh- Wow. Wooooow. She looks totally different when not blonde. o.0

I'm rather interested, mainly because I read the book. Don't judge me it was a santa gift.

...I did love reading it though.

Epic disappointment is epic.

I loved the novels. This looks not good... and there are SO MANY terrible casting decisions.. oh man..

If you think about the violence in the books it was mostly implied and not actually seen first hand. She runs away from the cornucopia where the most deaths are.. she hears other tributes get killed in the forest but doesn't necessarily see it happen. A particularly drawn out and gruesome death is only heard not seen. So technically the book could be considered more PG-13 then R without even having to change much. This book was written for teens in mind.. so it is not a gore fest.

Yeah....i prefer the manga.
There's a manga of the book??? PLEASE TELL THE FLAME MASTER!!!!!

OT: Not sure about the movie but if my sister reads and likes the book, then I guess I'll watch it too. However, if it is PG-13, I'm not watching it. I've heard that the book goes into some dark areas so it should be rated R.

Besides, the book is always better than the movie(usually).
Haha no, sorry for being misleading but i was talking about Battle Royale and how Hunger Games copied it.

I liked what I saw in the trailer. But it will still fail because it's PG-13.
