Have you ever had so much hype about a game that you lost interest in it no matter how great the game is or would have been? This kinda happened to me with infamous and prototype

I haven't paid attention to hype since Spore.

The second you destroy all expectations, the happier you will be in gaming.

I don't really get hyped up for games much. I do some research, go "hey that looks cool", couple months go by, games come out, "oh I've bin meaning to try that". If I end up disliking it I get my money back. There is only ONE game currently I am really fucking hyped over, and all my hype will not ruin the experience for me since I have seen enough of the game to practically have played it and will thoroughly enjoy it when it fucking comes to north america already.

But you won't tell us what it is.

Anyway, on topic, yeah, this happened to me with Starcraft II and numerous other games.

Yes happened with Starcraft 2 as well but then I realized its not coming out in the next few decades so I let it go

Gears of War. When the 360 was looming, I kept hearing about this 'amazing game' just for the 360. However, I knew NOTHING about it. After awhile, I heard of the 'chainsaw gun' and my initial reaction being Doom beat you there. Either way, it annoyed me and put me off right away. Ofcourse I still think GoW is sub par to many other games and is STILL over hyped.

Killzone 2.
....I don't believe you. Is that a serious post?
Oh noes, he bashed Killzone 2 and a Killsone 2 fan is here. And surprise, they are touchy about the series being bad-mouthed. I loved when Adam Sessler bashed all the whiney Killzone 2 fans for freaking out over a 5/5 rating.

I've stopped paying attention to what is coming out anymore. After spending every waking moment on game websites cramming my mind with excitement over some game I will never be able to afford for like half of high school I've come to the conclusion that I just don't give a shit any more. If something is really cool I'll hear about it from someone or somewhere (here for example). If it seems to be well-liked by people who's opinions I trust I'll check it out and see if its worth me playing through it. That's how I discovered a lot of games I enjoyed a great deal. This way I never get overly excited about games and am thus never really disappointed when the new ones don't live up to the hype. I've been so out of the gaming loop now I've almost no idea what is coming out and when. I'm currently spending my time playing through games recommended through this website for now (Just finished Deus Ex for the first time).
EDIT: Oh, except for the WtWTA movie. I got very excited about that. I don't care what none-body says, I'm fucking excited.
Did anyone else find the endings in Deus Ex really dissappointing? I mean it was less than a minute of dialogue and then a quote followed by the credits. For such an incredible and well-written game the endings are a huge letdown.

I don't even own a PS3, I own a Wii, so what the fuck are you smoking?

I asked if that was a serious post, because Indigo_Dingo is a resident representative of the SDF, and has never said a single negative comment about a Sony game. So naturally when he says he lost interest in the single most hyped sony game of all time, I am going to question it's validity.

So please don't ever go jumping to any kind of conclusions when you have no facts whatsoever like that again.

I really think Hype can ruin a game, my two example are Assassins Creed and GTA4.

Assassins Creed was hyped up for months and months, it was supposed to be the greatest thing ever! But it did not live up to the expectations and it got average reviews. It is a great game! Awesome graphics, great gameplay its a great game, but because ofnot living up to the hype, it is considered average.

GTA4 is the exact oppiste. It did suppoidly live up to the height, it was praised by game reviews and gamers alike. 10/10 best game ever! People realized it wasn't that great and now many people hate it. If it didn't get the really high scores because of the hype, it would be considered by almost everyone as a great game. Instead it is the game that got 10/10 and didn't deserve it.
