I picked this up in the Steam Sale, for pretty much the obvious shameful reason.

A repitive Hack and Slasher thats filled with cute anime girls and fanservice? Well what the hell it's $5 and I've never played much these anime games so I'll go for it.

This is legit first impression, I've only been playing for 15 minutes but already it is kinda of a silly relaxing fun just hacking away at enemies....It really makes me feel like, especially with the clothes degeneration fanservice mechanic, that this could be the base or good engine for a Kill La Kill game.

Anyway, does this sort of game.... I mean everything, not just the hack and slash gameplay but anime girls, the fanservicy shit, does this have an actual genre title?

Uh... Fan Service Hack and Slasher genre?

I know there's a couple similar games out there with the same mechanics, but I don't think it's a genre. In fact, I think they're all made by the same people (Or in partnership with the original game developer).

How dare you criticize the fanservice, you SJW, censorship happy prude who hates sexuality and sexualized women! The game has fanservice, so it is GOOD, and any criticism of it only comes from a place of wanting to shame male sexuality and...

sorry, couldn't go on with that one.

Anyway, it's not bad as hack and slashers go, but still not quite the brawler i'm hoping for (and Mother Russia Bleeds will hopefully provide)

I've played a little more and just decided to set it down now. It's a fun little game. Maybe if theres more costumes for me to unlock I'll waste more time on, but it has a certain charm about itself that it knows exactly what it is and doesn't apologize for it.

I am now actually interested in the main series so I'll have to look into that.

It's arcade style 3D beat em up. Think dynasty warriors. The fanservice elements are not really part of the genre definition.

Basically, look at Senran Kagura, like that.

Any familiarity with the Onichambra series? It's been a temptation to help fill my beat em up void as well, but I'm tenuous about it.

I guess I'm more for dark, gory and sleazy than cutesy and fanservicey.

Haven't actually got the action Hyperdimension game yet, I'm still wading through the actual RPGs.

I dunno if there's a title for the genre (its just a hack and slash with some fanservice, fanservice in and of itself isn't really a genre) buuuut...if you like kinda fanservicy hack and slash stuff you might want to take a look at Akiba'sTrip (lack of separating the two words in the title being deliberate there).

You say it's not part of the genre definition, then point to Senran Kagura? lol

I disagree. I think the fanservice element of the game is core part of it, or I wouldn't even be wasting my time on it.

Uhmm its Anime. Young girl in skimpy leather costume with blue hair fighting cute animals with a sword way too big for her to carry?! Straight up that's like 90% of all animes ever.

I have never played these games, they look... confusing. Is it supposed to be a post-modern realization of the console wars? Am I reading too much in to it?

It can be a selling point without being a different genre or a genre-defining-characteristic.

The game is like other action brawlers. Fanservice is like Gore, it can be part of any genre in varied amouts but one wouldn't call Doom, Mortal Kombat or Berserk gore-games or their genre the gore-genre, fanservice is like that too. Just like how action games have various degree of gore, some almost none, the same goes for fanservice.

Fallout has cinematic slow mo exploding heads, nepnep has overly focused cloths tearing off, neither thing defines these games' genre.

It's "funny" in the way that softcore porn is often "funny", because a plot or a story that was anything more would require talent and effort.

Ecchi shit, is what I'd call it.

Pretty much. The main villain represents piracy. First game was terrible, one of the worst I've played.

I don't know the specific word for the fanservicey shit,
'Ecchi' is good. Fan service? Check. Harem? Check. Playfully softcore? Check.

I got Neptune U based on the supposed similarities to SK, and I guess they exist. But while the fanservice is much stronger in SK the focus is really on the gameplay, which is really good. And challenging. Especially the boss battles. Neptune U is a button masher with some anime chicks.

Another good one (more SK than NU) is Onechanbara Z2.
