Ok so basically my question is this: Would you rather have:

A) A band that's first CD is fucking amazing, brilliant, etc and every CD after pretty much sucks
or
B) A band releases X amount of decent CDs throughout their career but nothing truly great.

There is a band called He is Legend who i think their first album is basically the best thing ever while their two releases after pretty much suck in my opinion (due to what im pretty sure was the singer throwing out his voice). It is the best example of this that I could think of and am seriously disappointed about their latest efforts but have to say I would rather have the 1 great album then 3 albums marginally better than their last 2. So i would have to go for choice A.

It depends, if I choose a, do I get multiple A's? Or do I end up with only one new cd to listen to?

You mean with multiple bands? Cause im just asking in regards to one band. As in they release one good CD and the rest just plain suck.

My personal opinion is the Album you discover a band on will be the one you always love the best.

To me it goes something like: Within Temptation - Silent Force, Rammstein - Mutter, Disturbed - Believe, Nightwish - Once, Offspring - Original Prankster. None of them are their debut albums, and many fans of each individual band would argue that other albums are better, but these are the ones I love because these are the ones I first listened to.

Or you could be a band that releases nothing but great CD's... like Radiohead...

Is it possible for me to enjoy the other albums or are they magically universally despised?

O, no, the band keeps releasing CDs and other people might think they are decent but you pretty much end up hating everything else they release.

A.

I'd rather have one good release and then the group disbanded. Many bands have years and years to write the material for their first album. Then they get a contract and a deadline, and the music takes a nosedive.

Choice A, definitely. I don't need to have every song by an artist. I just prefer to. I'd much rather have an amazing, perfect song rather than a bunch of songs that are just good.

Nightwish - Once
After a quick review, that album does seem to have more of their greatest songs (IMO) on it than other albums have, not counting Dark Passion Play(It's still a great CD, but new singer, new standards)

B, Why? because if I were in A then I'd be on a VH1 special showcasing how I fell onto a spiral of drugs, beer, men, and possibly woman. then how I turned out as a motivational speaker.
FUCK THAT!
I'd rather make a decent living. Maybe with a dog. And a camera!

Then I would merely become depressed watching a band I felt had high hopes for crumple under the weight of numerous terrible songs.

Guess I'll go with B, at least there will be some decent music for the radio that way.

I'd rather have A, it means I don't have to spend so much money.

Since good music is in the eye of the beholder, a load of dead-even average releases would make the musicians rich and famous for hitting a sweet demographic. Therefore, an A-list that goes golden and then hits the crapper is destined for the ultimate failure.

Well, first off, I saw He is Legend twice last year and they sucked both times.

Second, A singer messing up his voice is not improbable (Look up Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Self-titled CD was awesome, second CD, creatively titled "II", was pretty terrible because of his mangled vocal cords.)

Third, I know plenty of bands who had awesome first CDs but flopped every one after, and some of those debuts are my favorite CDs, so Option A.

Personally, I'd pick option A. I've actually listened to quite a few "A" bands, and many of those albums are among my all-time favourites. Some bands just have an amazing burst of creativity for one shining moment, and music is better for it. After that, however, it's best if they just go away before they eclipse their previous greatness with a sea of mediocrity.

Really? Pablo Honey was so painfully mediocre - apart from that, however, I agree. Radiohead can do no wrong.

Probably A. Just because I would remember them, or at least parts of them for much longer in my life.

Ya thats what im saying with He is Legend, the lead singer didn't know how to scream properly and fucked his voice up and now its just pretty terrible so i bet they are not good live anymore. And I liked II the best out of any maylene CD as they really incorporated their southern roots in that CD. Are you sure he mangled his voice because i think he got enough experience screaming in Underoath to keep from messing up his voice with Maylene.
