You have just evaded capture by the enemy. Your pursuers are company strength (75-200 soldiers). They are using vehicles, thermal imaging, and dogs that have your scent to find you. Facing them head on would be suicide and you cannot outrun them, your only option is to hide. The surrounding are is dense jungle with plenty of foilage and a small stream that is too shallow to hide in.

What do you do?

Cross the stream and roll around in it to get myself cold and a different smell. (hopefully avoiding the geo-thermal and scent for a little bit). During this borrowed time I would run into the thickest part of the jungle where it is too dense for vehicles to maneuver in and hide up in a tree. And then hopefully wage guerrilla warfare on the scouting parties. However I don't think this would [i/]really[/i] work but it's what I would do in Farcry so good enough for me.

I would douse myself with water to help get rid of some scent, then climb a tree as high as I can go.

agreed, BUT are they using sattelite based imagery or are thy using it on footif sattelite i would dig beneath the tree and set booby traps all around my little hideyhole and hope to disuade any captours from getting to me

Their thermals would spot you, and you wouldn't be able to escape

Surrender and hope the enemy treats POW's well... Seriously you're completely stuffed either way.

You love these war and gun sorts of questions don't you?

My cousing in the SEAL faced this exact situation. I'm looking for someone to name what he did exactly

He almost had it, just one thing missing.

First, cross the stream, but don't come out directly across from where I went in. I'd go downstream as much as I could. That hopefully loses the dogs. Second, rub mud all over my body to make myself more difficult to spot using thermal imagery (thanks to Predator for that idea.) Third, hide in the nearby foliage and hopefully keep the vehicles at a distance. Is that where you were going with this?

Use the water to mask my scent, then using the mud nearby to help mask my thermal signature, while heading away from the main enemy force. I would continute to head into the jungle, looking for a clearing to use my survival equipment, preferably a PRC-141 sat radio to contact a rescue team, without using the RF to broadcast my location to the enemy. After rescue I would begin a debrief after a meal. At least, that's what the SERE manual said.

Clearly the vehicles will be of no use as we are in dense jungle. Stay away from tracks, be ready to fight dogs and persuing soldiers. Generally speaking there won't be much hunt for a single soldier.

wasn't this scenario in a movie or something?

oh and, rolling around in a stream has been proven not to get rid of scent. perhaps you could go the full predator and roll around in the mud, constantly pcking more on so that they cant see you with thermals.

Depends on the breed of dog. There is typically nothing you can do to evade detection by scent except go to a populated area. A dog can easily distinguish your scent from everything else in the woods, even from many animals. Though if you go to a small city for example, then the dog doesn't have a chance because they get overloaded with having to slightly distinguish from one human scent to another.

Um.. am I missing how to be extracted by the US? Or am I still trying to get away from the troops?
