If the game contains a single player component, it's held to the same standards of any single player component. There's no saying "Oh, it's a Battlefield game, it's allowed to have a crap single player component" and still handing the game anything close to a 9 or a 10. And, by all accounts, the single player is pretty terrible despite the good graphics. So, Battlefield 3 can't get anything above an 8 in my book.
I'm paying for a game with single player mode and a multiplayer mode, and so I have the understandable position of expecting quality for my money. If they weren't able to deliver a quality single player experience, they should have simply made a multiplayer-only experience as per their other titles.
