Okay, I'm now going to tye this entire post without looking at the keyboard or the screen/. Touch typing is a practiced thing that really just needs to be learned and practiced for it to realy sink in. I, personally, have been doing this since Primary/Elementary school because my school required it.Decoy Doctorpus said:Hry everybody sorry about the errord I've ;eft them in to illustrare the problem. nilcypher covers the rough of it. While classes aren't exactly necessary, they can help, but tutorials for learning the home row are really all classes like these are good for. Otherwise, it's a function of practice. If you do want to learn, play 'Typing of the Dead' while limiting yourself to the home row and touch typing. While it's not perfect, it's the sort of repetitive practice that will help you out in the long run.nilcypher said:You want some tips? Honestly, take typing classes. I can't think of anything else to say.
Symbol keys are still a pain for me, actually, but I do know where they are, so maybe it'll help you out. Or maybe I didn't practice them enough when I learned typing.Decoy Doctorpus said:Iam actually pretty good at typing of the dead when i use my patented 'woodpecker' technique. Fingertips of fury.
Fingertips doesnt give me enough access to the symbols keys to code effectively. So I'm trying to learn now before I get used to coding.
Okay, this is typed with my eyes closed, this is quite hard because I can;t check as I go along how the spelling and punctuation is etc....fish food carl said:It took me so very long, but I managed to touch type this post. I'm awful at it, and can't get the hang of it. This took me about ten minutes!

Try typing with your euyes closed carl, or not watching the screen. It doesn't matter how long it takes, but it forces you to think about the keys rather than the letters on screen.
Looking now, I'm surprised I only made one typing error
It's not the 'not looking at the keyboard part' that's a problem. I usually type without looking at the screen. It's the correct finger placement that foxes me.Caliostro said:I googled touch-typing and was pretty disappointed to find out it was basically typing without looking at the keyboard... ..I really don't see what's difficult about it, I've been typing without looking at my keyboard for years, or with my eyes closed, or typing one thing and watching TV/talking to someone... I dunno...It's all about knowing where the keys are. Best I can recommend is something I do sometimes as a joke, type things in thin-air or on a table, without a keyboard, pretending it's a real keyboard with all the keys there.
Note: This post was entirely written without looking at the keyboard once. lawl.

Traditional typist have their hands placed so every finger rests on a key. It's a very efficent way of typing. I type using only my forefingers.Caliostro said:How so?Decoy Doctorpus said:It's not the 'not looking at the keyboard part' that's a problem. I usually type without looking at the screen. You mean, hands clear off, then put them on and re-start typing without looking where your fingers are?
Well, peripheral vision should take care of that, no?
Yeah, I'm kinda lost here, I admit it's the first time I hear the expression "touch typing".
