Call the moon the NightRock and you got a deal.
Caelo Terra means Earth in the Sky. Can we roll with that?

OT: Ardens Sphaera means Burning Sphere, I'm also up for that.

Well you're not alone in your goal. I have a buddy who calls it "The accursed burning daystar."
Score one for you, I'd say.

Well I can't say that I enjoyed walking my canis lupus familiaris (which was not actually mine...) in the silvis but somebody had to or the house would smell quite awfull. You can call our star Sun but it doesn't change the fact that any other star is a sun as well. Now I don't go around saying "Look at how Sol shines brightly today and poaceae is of delightfull green" but if we look for specific terms then latin is usefull, the common names in English are quite general and as those exampled showed refer either to a specific object or any other object of its kind, which isn't that important in a daily discussion because everyone knows what you're talking about when you say sun - it is only by comparison with other stars that we find a need to call our sun something else.
The Sun is the only Sun. If someone mistakes Ben Nevis for Mt Fuji that doesn't mean that we need a new name for Mt Fuji.
Lets say you know a guy named Alex, its completely fine to talk about Alex with your buddies because they know who you are talking about, but when you go visit another town for instance and meet 3 new people named Alex, it might be beneficial to explain which Alex you are talking about here. Catch my drift?
So, one could be Dayalex, another Humanalex, and another Aquaeterramalex! They all make sense, just some are cooler than others.
Exactly. Just like in real life some people are just cooler than others.

*shrugs* Too long have we named it the 'sun', so thus, there :p

I can see some Popular Scifi call it the Daystar, though.

No. Pluto is lame, and Saturn isn't a giant squash.
Also, Brontosaurus' were actually built AND named wrong, and Dr. Seuss was a racist.

Kudos on the great discussion value of this thread man :p

And someone has probably said this before me (I don't botter to read everyones posts) but the star of this solarsystem already has a name other then "the sun" it's called Sol Invictus.
That is ofcourse if you use the Roman names for planets and stars like Jupiter and Saturn.

It just sort of turned into a grammar thread. xD Good times.

Sol Invictus? Never heard of it. *To wikipedia awayyyy!*

EDIT: Sol Invictus is an early Roman Sun deity. Not an actual term.

The real Alex should be called Aléxandros and the other ones can then safely be called Alex.

How dare you? Pluto is awesome, its the only planet (yeah I said it) in the solar system without a circular orbit. Also Brontosaurus were cool in my childhood...

Haha you probably will find more when you look for just Sol but the official name is Sol Invictus.

Edit: after your edit: Yes but we cal Jupiter Jupiter because he was roman god and the same goes for al other planets because the Romans believed those planets to be there gods. The same goes for the sun because they saw him as the god of fire and light Sol Invictus just as the romans saw the sun as their god Helios.

But we went with the greeks and shortent Sol Invictus to just Sol.

Oh no you didn't. Pluto may have even been... *gasp* A BINARY PLANETOID SYSTEM WITH ITS MOON.
And Brontosaurus' were a lie. And T-rex was a nice mother with feathers.

Helios

As in, the thing that guys like Copernicus and Galileo were trying to prove our planet revolved around. (Heliocentrism)
On this site we use a language that is modified from Latin, just like we obey the laws of thermodynamics. *shakes fist* (Cookie for who ever gets the reference)
