I just wanted to brag, because I feel this was a job well done by me. I have an old 2005 X360 with a tiny 20GB drive. I spent 2 hours replacing the drive with a 250GB one, and it works! Some bumps in the road, had to do some minor stuff that wasn't mentioned in the guide. And I am so proud, I'm going to install ALL my games so I won't have to listen to the disk drive noise any more! Hooray for me!

Well since you ask, I suppose we could talk about why Microsoft decided to deliver an X360 with the most useless sized hard drive ever? A 20GB disk (where only about 11GB is available to the user because of mandatory system files) seems like a total waste of materials. The 4GB that is delivered with the cheaper models now is at least built into the console, instead of wasting slot space or materials on an even more useless sized drive. Not to mention the arbitrarily difficult process of replacing the drive, if you don't want to shell out for the severe premium that they put on those drives in the first place.

And as for people like me who actually still have the very oldest, noisiest model of the console, where the top-mounted drive bay is no longer made or sold, well I suppose you could buy it used online, but that's about as reliable as doing it yourself, and if you, like me, actually enjoy tinkering with this kind of stuff (if it seems worth it), would rather save that money as well, and just DIY. I actually had the extreme fortune of coming across an appropriate drive with decent space and not even having to buy it, it was simply given to me, so to me the only cost was the 2 hours of messing around getting it to work. (It was ripped from an old discarded computer).

I assume it was to have a stable cost for an individual unit. And since it's an early model, they probably didn't predict it to fill up extremely quickly.

Well, now I have a 20GB drive, not really useful for anything. I've dismantled enough drives in my life to know what's inside. not very exciting after the 10th time, so not sure if I can be bothered to open it. Might put it in an enclosure, could be handy for moving and storing random files.
