I cry sometimes. Yeah. But a video game has never made me cry (without being fucking irriating)
And so I applaud you Telltale Games for making me curl up in my room and cry my eyes out at the Walking Dead Episode 5.
This thread will be about your opinions on the Walking Dead game and the ending of Season One (and also some hate for the show to keep the feels away from the floodgate)

Loved it, the Season 1 of that game is one of the two best games I´ve played this year. The other being Spec Ops: The Line. In both cases, i got a lot more than i bargained for.
Anyways, got a lot of powerful emotions outta the game, and the ending was quite the tearjerker, as well. But it was a very enjoyable ride. A ride with a lot of difficult decisions to make, but it was really damn enjoyable. It did felt a bit that the decisions i made weren`t that important after the game ended, but i quickly disregarded that thought, since at the moment of making said decisions and moral choices, they were important as hell. And that`ll do the job for me, more or less. At least in the case of this particular game. So, yeah. Really really liked the game, and i hope to see Season 2. Soon-ish.

I'm working through Episode 3 right now. Nothing groundbreaking yet...

... except for the fact that the game actually lets you not say something. So many god damn times in Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, so many god damn games, I just wish my character could say nothing and let the conversation continue. Thank you for remembering the ellipsis, TellTale.

After hearing so much about it, I started playing chapter 1 a couple of weeks ago, good timing all things considered, with the last chapter of season 1 just released. Needless to say, I was stunned by how good it was. I even got my room-mate and father (not really gamers, either of them) to play this game, they both love it too and it's been a hot-topic of conversation with them both.

What it shows, is that you don't need the best graphics, a huge budget and an overblown launch to make a great game. All you need is a fantastic story, told well with fantastically casted voice actors. I would of done anything to see Clementine to safety, the only thing that really surprised me was that I didn't cry at the ending. I was preparing myself for it and not a single tear was shed.

It's so, so much better than the ridiculous TV show based on the same IP. During chapter 3 I almost stopped playing because of certain events (no spoilers, if you've played it, you'll know) but I'm so happy I carried on. And the fact that it effected me that much is pretty high praise, considering.

It was a good ending but due to my inability to feel emotions I didn't cry, I knew that was going to happen the moment that bite scene did. Loved the story, the gameplay not as much but meh.

Man, that ending. Aside from Clementine, Omid and Christa, I think every character I liked died in that game. Or, at least we didn't see them die. God dammit if Clementine died in that scene after the credits... pffff...

I was impressed by the characters that Telltale created. Sure there were some one note issues to them but they all had reasons for that, and they did get an arch. Usually ending in their deaths.
There was some real classick banter between folk at times, and Clementine was written perfectly. She was a smart little cookie, scared yet far stronger than she might have thought she was. God damn that ending.

Gameplay wise, well, the fact that you got options that'd have Lee stating he was looking at something, or conversations that would loop endlessly if you kept choosing them sorta broke the immersion, but in a way that kinda made me nostalgic for the old point and click adventures. But yeah, that could be hilarious at points.
The little timer for conversation options could be a bit weird at times, though I get that it was part of the narrative, a tense argument in a sticky situation doesn't give you much time for standing around and talking.

All in all I'd give it a 9/10, it wasn't perfect, but it was a real gem considering the format and content ^w^

Don't get me wrong because the game had a good story and I definitely enjoyed it. But considering there really wasn't any gameplay to speak of and the graphics weren't very advanced, I found the lack of actual choice to be very disappointing.

I have only played it once through but from listening to other people talk about their decisions it appears you have no real choice.

No matter what you do at Hershel's farm, Kennys son gets saved and the other guy dies.
Pretty sure no matter what, Ben gets added to your group and you can't kick him out.
Carly/that other guy die no matter what.(And here's hoping rick murders the shit out of her on the next episode of the TV series when they raid woodbury)
Katja and Duck die no matter what.
Ben dies no matter what.
Chuck dies no matter what.

And there does not seem to be any ramifications for anything you do beyond character interaction. Not getting food for yourself effects nothing. Getting all the pharmaceuticals doesn't make Lily less crazy about supplies getting stolen and thus not shoot Carly/other guy. There's absolutely no reason not to pull Ben up during the tower escape because the game says there's 'no time' to do so. And I would hazard a guess that if you say: "lets not go to the dairy farm" in part 2, it forces you to go there anyways. And it probably does not let you be a complete jerk and leave Clementine to die at the end of the game.

All in all I expected more from a game that costs 25$ if not more when it first came out. A game that champions the level of choice it purports to give to players. And to get that would just require some extra work on cinematic and hiring a few more VAs or recording more, which is a pittance compared to even low level game budgets. The bulk of the expense is designing the engine and the gameplay, neither of which would require much time for the walking dead. And it would be easy to do while keeping the player on the same path in the same locations but with more choice.

Don't want to go to the Dairy farm? Have the player stumble onto the crazy bandit lady at her camp in the woods while hunting and learn the truth about the dairy farm. Have some people out in the woods ask for help. Show incentives to the player by pointing out that they have a ton of food. If they still don't want to go, have the dairy farm brothers kidnap some of the survivors, or even Lee himself.

Player doesn't want to go to Savannah? Have a horde show up and chase them that direction.
Player doesn't want to ride on the train? Don't make them; or make them too weak to carry on by foot and have the cars run out of gas.
Player doesn't want to rescue Clem? Let them escape from Savannah using the same route.

There's plenty of cheap ways to reduce the need for extra set design while increasing the games level of choice.

Truly it was an amazing game, first video game to make me cry.
Also, Lee's March on The Marsh House was one of the most beautifully crafted action scenes I've ever had the delight to partake in.
Some of the best written characters I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know and then watch them die.

I cried too. So many feels! Such an awesome game.

I had a tiny hope that because I had them cut off Lee's arm he would make it, but nope. And then I had Clem shot him, because I couldn't stand the thought of him turning into a Walker. Poor Clem... My tears were streaming throughout that last scene with them. I hope we find out what happens to her in Season 2, cos that was one hell of a cliffhanger.

EDIT: Also this:

I agree... watching Clems reactions at the end broke my heart, especially being a father. No dry eyes here. Personally, I thought it captured the feel of the comic book world perfectly. As far as anyone badmouthing the show... have you lost your mind? The show is the best thing on TV, right now.

You need to watch more television.

It's improved for the third season, but it's still a frustrating show that hasn't come anywhere close to reaching its potential. Put it against shows like Mad Men or the recently ended Breaking Bad and it looks decidedly mediocre.

I don't get it. You people complain that a game that costs 60 bucks doesn't offer enough, now you complain that a game that costs a mere 25 bucks STILL doesn't offer enough ?

As for the game itself, i thought it was incredible, i'll definitely do it again but by doing things differently. I mean, you have so many ways to do the game, it's just mind boggling. One of the best games i've seen so far and the first game where i actually cared about the characters.

And i don't know if im the only one, but it's the first game where i see a character doing an action off-camera. The exmaple that comes to mind, is when Larry gets a heart-attack and you decide to either help him or go with Kenny. When you actually deide to help the fat bastard. Kenny actually goes off-camera (which can be deduced by his voice fading when he's on the other side of the room), picks up the block and then drops it on larry's head. I mean, it wa sso sudden i literally jumped out of my chair.

No applause for Telltales until they make another Sam & Max that is atleast as good as season 2 or 3.
