I'm sorry about this, but I want to put a point forward here. (At this point, everyone who has read my previous posts will go 'oh god, he's bashing the mods again!' Well I'm not)

I agree with all but one of the nominations for the escapist awards, and I have one change to make. Take out 'World of Warcraft' from the 'Best game of the decade' nominees, and replace it with 'Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2'. Stay with me on this, I have a reason.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 met with a tremendous amount of critical and commercial success. Due to its almost universal high ratings THPS 2 was the highest rated game of the decade from its release until 2010. According to GameRankings, it is the twentieth best scoring video game ever.
The PlayStation version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 has earned Platinum awards from gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly. Because of this, it is the only game in the magazine's history to ever have earned a Platinum award twice
Note: Until 2010,end of the decade.

So why is the greatest game of the decade, and generally shown as thus, not in the nominees?

I, to be honest, don't really mind, I was just wandering why no one had thought of it? Does anyone else see my point of veiw?

The original Tony Hawk games were and always will hold a place in my heart. I loved the graphics, gameplay, level design, they were all wonderful. Unfortunately they ran the franchise into the ground much like Guitar Hero.

Ran it into the ground, you say?

This is too fresh in the minds of people for them to recall THPS2.

I don't like Skating games. Battle that logic.

Skating doesn't appeal to a wide community.

World of Warcraft has eleven million people playing right now. I'm not saying you're wrong about including Tony Hawk, but World of Warcraft shouldn't be taken out.

I would say it's not counted simply because it's tough to say exactly what sort of lasting impact it's really had. Did THPS2 start any sort of lasting movement in game design? Did it kickstart a feature that is now virtually considered essential to gaming? Was it essentially the first game in a genre that gaming could now arguably not do without?

I appreciate that THPS2 was a very good game (though I firmly believe it doesn't deserve the review scores it has, particularly in retrospect) but I don't see it as having changed gaming at all. The only aspect I can see being a lasting one is that it sort of brought score based gaming back from non existence, and Trophies and Achievements are the modern day nearly required equivalent of that.. but even in that case, THPS1 did that first. THPS2 just hit a bigger audience.

You know the problem with ride? It was made by Tony Hawk, for Tony Hawk.
To get to the point: you are quite right, the early Tony Hawk games were fantastic and I have no idea why they wee omitted.

Where THPS1 was stagnant and faulty, number two came out of nowhere and blew many peoples minds, fluid, creative, fun and easy to use,it made a generation of gamers pick up a board. Yes it had a small target market, but that doesn't illegible for a nomination

Sorry, but I dont see you playing 3000 hours of Tony Hawk.
I clocked about 100 hours of THPS2 game play, and im guessing people have played more. Also, what has that got to do with the greatness of the game!?

And then EA went one better and introduced the skate. series. They're so much more fun, not to say that I never liked THPS/THUG/THAW games...

I was, without sounding over-confident, the greatest Pro Skater 3 player in the history of man kind.

Yes, you said 2, but I don't care.

Anyway, if it goes on personal opinion and not ratings/sales then there's every chance it won't be in there.

Besides, Mafia is the best game of the decade; everyone knows that.

I never understood the massive critical acclaim of the tony hawk games. Best I could understand is the games were reviewed by their own merits(on a scale of one to ten, does this look like a real skateboard?), as the overlap between people who play video games and skateboarders is almost nil.

Not to mention, who gives a shit about "best of the decade" anyway? '00-'09 fucking sucked in almost every aspect. It was a decade so desperate for any sort of memorable trait that it just splished around in mediocrity. Then as far as gaming goes, it was the decade in which the mainstream began dictating what could be in a game.
Living up to your name well there my man.
The fun in the games wasnt the fact you thought you could do the things you were playing, but that you knew you never could, fantasy = fun
