Who else is psyched for the release of Civilization V on September 21? I know I am. I've already decided what I want to do first, aside from play a few custom games to a get a good feel for the new and improved engine.
Basically, there is an app on Facebook called Nations, and way back in the summer of 2008, it got really popular, well, in terms of its user base. I don't expect anyone to recognize the name. Anyway, that summer, the creators added a set of forums, one of which was a role playing forum, allowing users to conduct diplomacy and even war in a text forum. I joined that on September of 2008, about a month or so before someone decided to take things a bit further. See, most nations were not made up to fit on a real-world map, and things were sometimes confusing wit everyone making land claims and having the Earth map be the only standard map in existence. There was a guy from Chile who started a fictional continent called Aels, based on the legend of Atlantis. He is an art major, I think, so he has made maps and various other drawing of soldiers from various nations, as well as scenic portraits and countless other works relating to the continent. The role playing on that continent has gone strong for two years now, and I can't wait to try and make a world in Civ V using the modding tools to recreate that continent with all of the nations involved.
It will be quite a task, but it should be fun.
