I'm on the warpath when it comes to getting new games. I'm buying them as cheaply and quickly as I can, and I need ones that will keep me occupied for AGES, with masses of replay value. The criteria is that they not be generic shooters (games like MGS4 and Bioshock are fine, but I have those), have been around long enough for there to be a possibility to get them cheap, and that they be on the PS3

I love VS fighters, Combo-based hack-and slash (no GoW right now please), RPGs and third person action-adventure. I want the games to be story-oriented as well as gameplay, and rewarding.

I am currently looking into getting Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and Bayonetta, and have already got DMC4. My PS3 Game library consists of:

inFamous
FF XIII (for some weird reason)
Bioshock 1&2
The Orange Box
CoD WaW & MW
Super Street Fighter IV
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

I have had and sold:

MGS4
CoD MW2
Heavy Rain

Thanks Escapists, all comments are welcome, and no trolling please.

- Edit -

Sorry, i forgot a couple of games.

Fallout 3: GOTY Edition
Hated Oblivion with a passion

Dragon Age Origins.

Buy that.

That should keep you occupied for a long-ass time. And when your done with it, Mass Effect 2 should be out on the PS3, so get that as well.
For more RPG goodness get Oblivion and Fallout 3.

And buy Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from the PSN store.

Also, Ratchet and Clank!!

LittleBigPlanet is a great game with some amazing user made levels, although at this point it might be better to wait for LBP2.

I have Dragon Age: Origins on the PS3 and it is one of my most played games ever. Great RPG. I have poured hundreds of hours into it and still have two active save games I am playing, with the expectation of more to come in the future.

Personally I really enjoyed Dead Space. Third person shooter/horror. Some people hated it, but I find the gameplay really fun and it has a pretty good atmosphere. I haven't played it as much as DA:O of course, but I still play it sometimes for fun. And since the sequel is due out soon, now is as good a time as any to pick it up.

Fallout 3 is a mixed bag. It is the type of RPG which you can only really enjoy if you take the time to do so. I originally rented it and it was no fun. Still, I later bought the GOTY edition for cheap and enjoyed it. Lasts about a hundred hours if you do everything. Has a lot of bugs, which is another reason you have to be patient with the game. Still enjoyable though. However, in my opinion, it has no replayability. Not so much of an issue when one playthrough is one hundred hours, but I personally haven't been able to really get into any replays.

From your list, Bayonetta is a fun game. I don't think it has the sheer replayability of an RPG like Dragon Age, but I have it and enjoy it a lot. I think it is better than the Devil May Cry games, personally. Story is a bit incomprehensible, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Anyway, that's my recommendations. It goes without saying that if you have a good PC get the RPGs on it. I don't, and I don't mind them on PS3 now that I am used to it, but the mod community alone makes PC a more attractive option for those with gaming PCs.

Your list seems pretty good you always find something to enjoy in a cheap game and those games all have something to offer regardless of overall quality.I especially like Blaze Blu being a fan of the Guilty Gear games I'm a sucker for 2D fighters.

Instead of Bayonetta though I would recommend Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 because Bayonetta is a mess on the PS3.Also if Uncharted 2 is reasonably priced check it out it's a actually a really good game.

Good luck on your search seems like some good times are ahead.

Define "generic" shooter. I would suggest The Darkness but, while it is a very weird, trippy game, it IS a shooter (well, half of the game is spent shooting) but I don't know what you mean by generic to know if it qualifies. I'm guessing the F.E.A.R series and the Uncharted series falls under that heading though.

I've had Arkham Asylum for a while and played it a little when it first came out but I have been up its ass the last week or so. It is a fantastic and gorgeous game if you haven't tried it. Even if you don't like comic books or comic book games (as I don't), it is still worth a playthrough.

NFS:Undercover is a good one, although the frame-rate problem sometimes really blows.

I wouldn't get Continuum Shift just yet, because the sequel is coming out and it's got a fully functional tutorial system, whereas the first game hasn't and is apparently hard to grasp for first-time players.

Continuum Shift is the sequel. It came out today here in the UK, and, I am an experienced "2D Fighter" Gamer. I would have the first already, it being less than a tenner, but i decided to wait for the sequel.

You should defintely get Valkyria Chronicles. I love that game. I bought that game for half off during a sale at Gamestop. I barely played 2 hours of it, and I said, "One of the best PS3 games ever". Still have to finish it though.

Demon Souls is a good game from what I've played, but as you probably know by now, its hard. Haven't played too much of that though. Game will keep you busy because of that, but in a good way. Think the game is better because its hard.

Found the action in Bayonetta to be pretty good. I enjoyed it, and the over the top action is just hilarious. Don't know if I would pay full price for it though. Not too long of a game, but you know, multiple difficulty levels and all that.

I personally did not enjoy Dragon Age. Found some of the dungeons to be just too long, and the gameplay wasn't exactly for me. Story was good though, and the character interactions, while different, is done well. I'm more of a Mass Effect guy though. The game will keep you busy though.

Shame you aren't asking about the Nintendo DS. Was gonna suggest getting The World Ends With You. Have over 100 hours in that game trying to get everything.

Well, hope this helps with your decision!

Although not story orientated, the Mount&Blade series has by far teh best combat in any RPG. Tis on the PC. Go to Taleworlds/com and download it. You get the full game but a level cap of 7 or 8 untill you buy it. Requirements are low, so most any PC can run it. There is no structured story, you make your own story.

Valkyria Chronicles is quite enjoyable in many aspects, but it gets Stupid hard later on. Trial and error is imminent. Still worth getting though IMO.

As for fighting games, I'd probably go and wait for Marvel VS. Capcom 3.

System Shock 1 and 2. Classic survival horror games. Hands down one of the best female villains ever. Helped start the FPS/RPG genre.

Metal Gear Solid 3. Easily one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life. Don't judge it by the weirdness of MGS4 (which I also like, but in a different way).

Chrono Trigger. Legendary game from Back in the Day when Square-Enix was Squaresoft and made stuff on cartridges for the SNES. Way too much awesome in a 16-bit can.

Persona 3 and 4, which are both easily 75 hour games if you're really anal-retentive about your fusions and your completionism and stuff.

I'll second Valkyria Chronicles, though I dunno, you may be in that category of people who really don't like SRPGs. I personally don't, except for Valkyria (so that's saying something!).

Bioshock 2 is fun if you're willing to put aside how it's really just there for you to play as a Big Daddy. I was very entertained.

Team Fortress 2, except you don't like generic shooters, but I find that it's got a great multiplayer for sporadic gaming. It's also really funny in terms of its schtick and art style.

...Those would be my immediate recommendations. And by the way, selling Heavy Rain should be a crime -- why'd you get rid of it? It's got great replay value and is just...revolutionary!
