January 2014 on the Escapist.

The month of peculiar names, or, How to make your future children hate you.

But whatever, it's your name, so feel free to change it to whatever you want. I think it's ridiculous, only a few pegs below Remmington Thunderknife, but whatever floats your boat.

...

...

BRB, changing name to Remmington Thunderknife.
It isn't a strange name at all. You, of all people should know about interesting given names, Daystar. :D

OT: Pretty good name, interesting but a "normal" surname as to not potentially embarrass your offspring or spouse(s). Congrats and I hope you are satisfied.
Why should I?

Ashley is a perfectly common name in these parts.
And there I'd always assumed you were male.
He is male, Ashley is a unisex name. Like Alex or Danny.
That was the joke I was trying to make. I guess it was a bit weak.

Oh sorry, Poe's law and what not.

OT: I'm wondering what the record number of name changes are? Is there a limit to how many times you can change your name?

I knew a guy that had his name legally changed to Jackass. So congrats on picking a better name than him.

To be fair OP most of your original name choices were pretty bad:

Prince Vegeta

Darth Cruxis

Mithos Yggdrasill

Gaius Maxwell at least sounds like an actual name and not something stripped from a fantasy story. I'd still probably go with something more modest than a Roman emperor's name, but it's your decision.

I have to ask, is there a particular reason you chose that?

Y'know... I actually really like that name. And congratulations on not being named Mithos Yggdrasil!

Had to quote you here. Dude, I love that name. Makes me kinda wish I could be named something like that~ Also, I squealed a bit since your first name is the name of the bad guy in one of my fave games, Dust: An Elysian Tail. General Gaius was his name. Either way, great pic, glad you like it :3 (May I ask why you changed it to begin with?)

Hey, more power to you for deciding your own name. I want to change mine to Coraline but not for the animated movie of the same name; for Cora from Last of the Mohicans. -3- Until then, I suppose I'll just be Katherine.

Oh come on!

Two pages in and not a single mention of the most absurd (and recent) name change ever?

Beezow?

A Mr. Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop?

I wish I was not telling the truth here.

Congrats on the successful change, may all your subsequent adventures be thusly epic.

Lots of reasons really.

The main one being I had a super common first name and a ridiculously annoying last name that I had to spell AND pronounce to everyone despite only being 4 letters long.

I never really liked my name, I never felt any sort of connection to it - I guess it's hard to explain to someone who hasn't had the feeling.

I remember that thread and Gaius Maxwell is a billion times better than any of the other names you were considering in it, so I have to say good choice! I think that's a really awesome name.

A wise choice in the end I think. It is slightly eccentric, but not so much that you will have to deal with people asking you about it every single time you give your name.

It's also far more interesting than my frequent name changes. I am on my third surname, although the reasons for it are entirely different.

I this thread is any indication, I'd recommend saying the name aloud over writing it down where possible. I am not sure why so many would read it as "gay-us" but, apparently it's not that uncommon.

Holy crap.
Given the moronic names listed in that original thread, I'm utterly surprised something as sensible as Gaius Maxwell ended up being the winner.

Well done.

How is that actually worse than all the people named Julius and Augustus running around?

Since when were there lots of people named Julius and Augustus running around? If you're referring to the shortened version of those names Julie and August I'd say the difference is that those have become common names that are no longer most closely associated with Roman Emperors. Gaius on the other hand is pretty uncommon, so when I hear it I immediately think Caesar. To me it seems like a very proud, bordering on egotistical name to pick for yourself. But that's just me, and I already said I thought it was a much better name than his previous considerations.
