I can kind of understand why someone wouldnt like it its long alot of scenes are boring and the rest can rely on the action but its still the most realistic representation of violence i have seen in films
I loved district nine though! It was so much better the Saving private Ryan!vorlors said:Then don't watch districte 9 . it filmed the same way lots of gore action with little story.
Would you watch it in a house?MasterSqueak said:Would you watch it with a mouse?
I found it dull and insulting to my intelligence. If you're aiming for historical accuracy, you could at least get the sides right and have some British troops in there.mrpenguinismyhomeboy said:I watched the first part of it at my friend's house and I just became incredibly bored with it. I know it's a classic but I just didn't like it at all. Neither Tom Hanks nor Vin Diesel are very good actors and I found the whole plot of the movie rather unreal.
Because you want to be yelled at and we refusemrpenguinismyhomeboy said:Why is no one yelling at me? Why are you people so damn friendly?
well since we are all so dawm nice here at the escapist i will ablige your request for yelling...mrpenguinismyhomeboy said:Why is no one yelling at me? Why are you people so damn friendly?
he was that gi that got sniped about half way through the movie when the squade was trying to save some french people from a german sniper. the guy who had the letter to his dad and the clerk (forgot his name) copied it in the church. ringing any bells.DuplicateValue said:Vin Diesel was in it?
I don't remember him at all...

If it weren't for the first 20 minutes, I'd put it down as one of the most boring films ever to grace filmmaking.mrpenguinismyhomeboy said:I guess what I'm saying is, how many of you want to kill me now, and how many of you agree with me?
haven't seen the movie in a while but yeah, i think that was him.DuplicateValue said:Was he the one who was carrying the little girl?Evil mr dave said:he was that gi that got sniped about half way through the movie when the squade was trying to save some french people from a german sniper. the guy who had the letter to his dad and the clerk (forgot his name) copied it in the church. ringing any bells.DuplicateValue said:Vin Diesel was in it?

The film is from the perspective of American soldiers who landed at Omaha beach- the British, French and Commonwealth forces landed on beaches further to the east, so i would not expect to see any British troops, unless a theme of the movie was "international co-operation", which in this movie, clearly isn't. I do see your point though that this movie does give the impression that D-Day was a solely American effort- but historical accuracy is also not a feature of this film. Don't watch this movie for a history lesson. I don't think the director intended it to be. For instance I think that it is a bit inaccurate that one tiger tank attacks them in that french village towards the end of the movie.
1) As far as i know, German tanks attacked in numbers, not lone units attatched to infantry. 2) The German tanks where stationed far inland away from Allied naval guns, and when they where moved (with great reluctance due to lack of fuel) they where sent to attack British tanks in the west- there where some pretty big tank battles we faced.
As someone pointed out before, it was a movie made to win oscars- and it did win some oscars, and in my opinion rightly so- acting, i thought was good- and the story line to it was, a tad basic, but worked quite well. Action sequences where also very good. However, the "All American hero patrotism/ bravado" jazz did annoy me slightly.
