Ok the results arn't in yet but i went along with my parent and a half (mum and step dad) to vote in the eu elections on thursday but if i'm entirly honest i have no faith in any of the parties that were standing, so eventually after much consideration i ticked every box seeing as though i didn't realy want any of them in power. this is because i don't trust any of the big three partys after the expensences scandal and everyone else seems to be either extreamist or one policy partys. All three of my parents (mum, dad and almoast step dad) have criticised me for this but escapists i ask you was i right? how would you have acted?

I always vote, at least when I know the candidates and their stances on the issues at hand. It's up to you to decide who represents the lesser of two (or three) evils.

I can't vote. And frankly, I do not give much of a damn for politics right now.

Me too. No fair representation for ol' berethond, nope.

Just higher taxes and exorbitant national debt that I had no say in. But hey, whatever.

If you don't vote, you void your right to complain when everything goes to shit.

So no, you weren't right, you should have looked more carefully at the parties before hand and made a better informed decision. Your point of view's understandable but it sounds like you went in not really knowing who/what exactly you were voting for.

As it happens I voted Labour for my council and Greenies for the EU. The local council guy I happened to already know was a good bloke whilst the Greens were the only party that I thought a both a decent set of policies and a clean(er than most) reputation.

I didn't even know there WAS a vote.

But I wouldn't have voted even if I did.

The lesser evil is always the evil that isn't in power. Even the Green party would become raving oppurtunists if they had a vague chance of victory. Just look how far to the right Labour went to win over the right-wing British media.

Power corrupts even the best.

In this situation, that you felt disillusioned with all the parties, I think its a far better choice to spoil your ballot than simply choose not to vote. By doing so you're not so much opting out of the process as expressing your disinterest in all available options, while actually making the effort to get this point across. While I do agree that it is better to vote for a party you support and agree with, but not something you should simply do to conform, it is just as valid a choice to give no one your vote.

I personally feel that spoiling your ballot actually frees you from responsibility if things go wrong as it shows that you felt none of the candidates deserved your vote, not that you couldn't be bothered to exercise your right. Effectively you're putting yourself in the position to say "I told you so", when the winner makes a mess of things.

Whilst i wasn't old enough to vote this time, i figure that even if i don't like any of them, my best idea is to vote for my least hated. So unless you hated every party equally, then i would say no, you didn't. It's not like not voting means we have none, so we may as well vote for the best/least bad

For a PR system, you dont need to like anyone, you just need to dislike someone more than the others... thats all really

The big thing is, if you dont vote then you dont deserve to ***** about politicians, because well you didnt vote.

What you did was fine, the reasons for doing it are a bit iffy. I really wouldnt get so worked up about the expenses scandal, this sort of curroption will happen in every other job all the time, and some of these politicans are horribly underpaid, so give some of them a break. Not all mind you, just some.

Anyway, vote if you are actually following politics and you have an opinion that is informed and represented by a party, otherwise its fine to not vote - it'd mean a lot less silly issue and leader-based voting and thats a bonus to the political system in itsself.

I didn't vote in this one either, as I'm thouroughly disenchanted with politics at the moment. Don't let anyone bully you into voting. Sure, it's a great thing that we're given the chance to vote at all, but that doesn't mean that you HAVE to vote. If you feel that you don't agree with any particular party, then abstaining is perfectly reasonable.

On the other hand, I also currently feel that any vote that ISN'T for the British National Party is a vote well spent. The leader of the Young BNP once said, and I quote: "Aids is a positive disease, because gays and black people can get it."

Bunch of freaking nazi's....

Elections are coming up, here in Mexico, and I will either not vote or end up making a line just to annulate it. But haven't made my mind yet.

Things be fucked up in here.

Just write your name on the paper thing.

Oh and tell everyone you know to write your name on the paper thingies and if you can rally enough people you end up breaking the system!
