I always thought of Halo as a rather fun game. Yeah its single player sucked but they started that tradition around Halo 2, but the multiplayer is one of the best I know. Certianly better than the COD or MW series or whatever it likes to be called now. At least Halo had some diversity in its gametypes and they actually felt different and each were fun in its own way. And the maps are very open and the multiplayer lets you drive around in vehicles and destroy everything in your path including yourself in often hilarious ways. I just dont get why people hate Halo so much. Can anyone clue me in on why?

I couldn't really get into it, but I don't hate it. If I actually had Live, instead of just going to a friends house to play, I'd probably be able to have a lot of fun with it.

People hate Halo because it became cool to hate Halo. That' most of it.

Legitimate reasons would be that in 2 and 3, they reused the same story structure, and the multiplayer being filled with young kids screaming, annoying jocks/pricks/etc, and other assorted complaints but it tends to come down to sheeple being sheeple.

I don't quite get why people like Halo. Its always been a plain and boring game with nothing going on. Then again, each to his own, right?

Mostly because it's mainstream and hating it has become a fad of sorts. Personally, I think that coupled with the books it makes up the greatest game series of all time.

Because it set a horrible standard for copycats, thus turning nearly the entire genre into a samey, homogenous bog.
It sucked the creativity out of FPS, and left us with a swarm of identical ripoffs, only they were even worse than the original.

People don't hate Halo for itself as a game, they hate it because of what it did to the industry.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times... I'm Spartacus! I loved it if only for the fact it let me pistol whip intergalactic gnomes. The plasma grenades meant nothing to me.

For everything else there's Mastercard I have nothing against it.

Have you ever even played Modern Warfare 2? It doesn't sound like it at all. It might be imbalanced at the killstreaks are overpowered, but it's probably the most diverse and interesting multiplayer FPS on the market.

People hate halo because it isn't a very good game, a game cannot be carried on its multiplayer alone, and frankly Halo's multiplayer is pretty crap anyway.

No I just dont like MW because its just not fun. If I wanted to play a realistic shooter I'd rather play R6 Vegas 2. Halo I've just had more fun/stupid/epic/funny/ridiculous shit happened in that game's multiplayer than I ever had in any other multiplayer. And part of the reasons I don't like MW is that nobody really played it for fun, they just played it for another inch on their willy called prestige.

Halo as a game is probably one of the best shooters out there around, the mechanics are solid and so are the controls.

Halo as a story is well...pretentious, it's like a dumber version of Starship Troopers yet taken seriously, and the fact that a lot of people buy into it and won't stop talking about it makes it all seem obnoxious to be around.

I dont think anyone truly hates Halo, They just hate it for its popularity. Halo is the legendary first person shooter because Halo Combat Evolved was the game that set the standerd for all console shooters.

Ok you say a game cannot be carried by multiplayer alone but thats exactly why MW is making so much money. Its not because of its epic war story (har har har) its carried by its multiplayer.

well its like this... every game only get so long to shine before there are thousands of rip offs. that and a combanation of super-nerds taking things too far dident help the game out. the first and second one were good, but the third and past sucked.

Mainly raging at a) it being so damn popular, despite the fact that it was Just Another FPS (I've played Halo 2 for a bit, and it didn't top TimeSplitters for me),
b) it spawning a lot of clones (as does anything that sell stupid amounts: expect many MW2 clones in the next few months), most of which weren't very good.

Because its successful and popular and it's owned by MS. So people think they're "taking a stand" by telling anyone willing to listen that THEY don't follow the popular trend. Of course the logic flaw is that they are following the opposing popular trend of hating on something mostly because it's successful and popular.

Of course this doesn't apply to all people who don't care for the franchise. Some people just don't like sci-fi or they are more into games that feature a different kind of gameplay/setting/action/whatever. And I'm fine with those people.

It's the ones who see a thread labeled "Halo this or that" in a forum and open the thread to tell people how cool they are for not liking the thing. Say what you will, flame me if you like, but there's lots of things I don't care for that are popular. The difference is I don't seek out fans of those things just for the sake of telling them about it. If I don't like it, spending even a minute talking about it is more than I'm willing to offer.

I don't hate it, just Threads about it.
People hate it either because they don't like it, or feel like joining the Crowd. Honestly, the best thing to do is follow the words of wisdom from a Movie I've never seen
And move on.
For reasons why I don't like Halo Threads, please look up the term Flaming, as Threads such as these tend to breed Flame Wars of some sort.

Simple answer: each to their own

Ask yourself the same question about anything

this doesn't warrant a topic.

Why don't you think logically instead of asking a pointless question?

Same reason people like TF2, it's the cool thing to do. It's all opinions, and PC gamers generally hate Halo because it just doesn't hold a candle to the glory that is TF2. I play both competitively and I enjoyed Halo until I started to suck at it. Also, there's a lack of updates in Halo 3, whereas other games get updated. New maps that are old don't count..

because each one is a poorly written, boring, generic shooter with a lackluster cast of characters that ruined the FPS genre... well just to do a summary I could write a couple pages about why it's bad but for the sake of time I'll leave it at that...
