Basically, its like your characters in a story, the story is set by the guy who made the thread, so you make a character, generally to the template laid out for you, and when it starts, you talk as that person.

Here's an example for a zombie killing game.
Name:Genricus.
Age: 25
Appearence: He has blonde hair, blue eyes, etc.
Bio: He was in the army, abused as a child, mysteriously left on a doorstep etc.
Weapons: Desert eagle and a couple of frag grenades

And when the Rp starts, you talk as them
I do my actions as past tense, but you can do them as present tense.

Genericus walked over to the door.

"OH SHAT!"

He pulled out his pistol and started firing

See what i mean?

RP's for me, allow me to access a whole different side of myself, with lots of fiction added. It's a really good way to immerse yourself in a good story or make new friends on here. Some of my best Escapist friends I have met in RP's. Letsrock gave you the basic character thing, but i'll give you some depth as to what happens.

I usually write like this:

I walked inside the building cautiously, the noises and the darkness were making the room an even bigger mystery. The flooring creaked as I trudged through the desolate house.

"Hello?" I wavered. There was no reply. I brought myself to walk up the stairs, and the sight that met my eyes, made me feel sick.

----------------------------------------------------

Just to give you a little background on writing style. Most RP creators prefer you to write in first-person.

=)

Yeah, so pretty much ignore everything that i said, and stick with starstruck :D

Edit: There is a right way, and a wrong way, for the right way, look at starstruck's Rp's, and the zombie apocalypse squad, for the wrong way, look at HazeandHalo

Its pretty easy, just make sure it makes sense and goes with the story :D

Though many RPers prefer first person I still love third person as it allows me to not only immerse myself in the story, but right out the story for others to enjoy as a recreational read

If you're hosting an RP (I'd advise taking part in a few before you do this), make sure you know where you want it to go. If you're a member but not the host, try and stick with the story.

Whats this RP thing all about anyway?

Sounds interesting :)
If you refer to role-playing on this site, I strongly advise you read the guidelines here. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.63498

If you refer to role-playing in general, it is exactly what it sounds like. You assume the role of a original character (OC) of your creation and participate in a storyline.

Our RP forum has gotten an incredible increase in traffic this year, bearing with it many different effects. We used to have a lot fewer RP's and RP'ers, and thus, the RP's were generally more planned out. Now that we have a lot of RP'ers, we can also host a lot of RP's and those of the kind that require less effort of all participants. You may see RP's of all kinds here. Lynchers, PvP tournaments, plot-driven, character-driven, and many kinds of instant-gratification RP's.

If you have any questions, I am as always happy to answer by PM.
