Yeah, I don't see why they do this either. Either they want people to see how great the game is or they don't. In this case, it doesn't look like they do. They should actually be showing people the best things in-game, right?
I don't understand video game reveals.

Marketing exists, and in some cases its kinda baffling how they go about it. I'm fairly certain some of it is for the target demographic, and the more baffling ones are more to keep the investors happy. But game reveals aren't a new thing, so it should be treated as alien concepts. You might not be affected by reveals or hype but the precedent for them is more or less a tradition of media in general, film, games or otherwise (books sometimes even get trailers).
However there is a disconnect in the marketing world when it comes to games. Some folks who work in the industry understand gaming and how to market to game enthusiasts, some of them are folks who know very little about the industry or customer base they market to. Like upper management in publishers, some of them are qualified and are honest gamers themselves, some are people who have an MBA or otherwise hold a degree but are fucking incompetent micromanagers who have no business being in gaming.
The industry needs a bit of change in the way people are hired, with requirements put on people who want to work in it to have at least some knowledge beyond "a controller has buttons and makes things happen" (some don't even understand that concept). Like management for developers should at least have some practical knowledge of development, even if they're not programmers or graphic artists or sound engineers personally.
Likewise marketing management and crew should have some honest knowledge of gaming, and love for the industry. So the more baffling marketing disconnects are more likely run by the folks who're hired without knowledge of the field they're working in. This is a failing of management of the publishers who are most likely just as clueless as the people they hire.

I find that I am getting really grumpy about advertisements of products, services or even sales that are not available yet. For example, my local Sonic likes to advertise sales a week or two in advance on their marquee instead of advertising current sales. They just aren't important enough for me to remember a sale a week or two from now. I am interested in what is currently on sale.
I also hate announcements of announcements: "President Obama to announce blah blah tomorrow". Well there is no need for him to announce it tomorrow since you just announced it for him!

I don't understand CoD or BF. If a new version isn't being released, something identical will.
That said, if Nintendo "revealed" that they would be releasing a new Metroid (a REAL Metroid game, not "other M" or "federation force) game, declare Other M non-canon, reveal a new F-zero game, and a sequel to Eternal Darkness, AND that Rare was returning to Nintendo AND was ready to release a spiritual sequel to Jet Force Gemini, AND that those games would all be playable with a Wii Classic controller or Gamecube controller and you could use a Wii U controller as well but it wasn't mandatory, you could just used that bizzare touchscreen/motion-sensing/sex-aid thing if you REALLY WANTED TO? oh god, I might actually buy a Wii U, if I had any energy left after emptying my testicles into my underwear.
