I don't understand why people enjoy Dark Souls/Demon's Souls

The gameplay was just awful, I was pretty disappointed.

Every enemy is defeated by either
1. Diving behind them and insta stabbing.
2. Blocking and circling, and when you attack all you need to do is mash r1.
By that logic, the Devil May Cry games have terrible gameplay because all you have to do is shoot everything with your pistols. If you chose to actually experiment and try out different weapon styles and fighting styles, you would have a better understanding of how good the gameplay is.

OT: Another week, another Dark Souls bashing thread. I wonder when haters will come up with more informed reasoning.

I liked it because I could invade some guy on doing his 3rd or 4th playthrough of the game, stand near the gate to the boss of whatever particular area they were in at the time, and then challenge them to a dual whereby they must fight against an actual thinking opponent to progress. This added a layer of experience to the whole thing where if I died to someone, they would have the joy of victory along with some souls as a reward regardless of their battle with the boss. If I won, I gained the same satisfaction while they could examine and adapt to improve their abilities and give the next person the same challenge.

Yes, yes, of course. Gameplay is just clicking buttons until you win.

What can I say? I found the combat a boring, predictable obstacle to get through rather than an exciting encounter.

Either way, even fans will readily admit the combat depth is hardly the game's strong point. It's the games unforgiving nature, haunting environments and appeal of leveling up a character.
