GameStop is a bit of a Failure in Britain. They can't wrestle the market off of GAME, and GameStation is moving in and taking customers as well.
I do pretty much all of my game shopping in a small GAME store in a building that is going to be knocked down to make way for yet another clothes store, because the current one wants to move 500m closer to the new shopping center.
Unless they managed to stop that. I hope so, otherwise a load of shops will go down if they demolish the old Bargate shopping center...
Anyway, even if GameStop became the only choice, I wouldn't go there.
The only place I've ever found a Gamestop was in Birmingham, and it sucks in comparison to Gamestation (my personal favourite).

Wait, do we even have GameStops over here?

Are you referring to me or Gamestop?
Gamestop, not you.

Countries where Gamestop doesn't exist? I've honestly never gotten the big deal about used games sales. I mean seriously, one person loses a copy, the other person gets a copy. There's still the same amount of games in circulation. It's not like they're pirating it.
The problem with Used games sales is that the game may be in circulation, but any profit that it makes goes completely to the store that sold it. The Developers, Publishers and other people associated with the game get nothing. It does hurt publishers, but unlike piracy, it is legal, but the way gamestop does it is a tad unethical (They'll give you 10 bucks for 5 games if they're over a year old and then sell those games at 3 times the price each.)
Yes, but someone is losing their copy of the game so it evens out. But I can see why Gamestop's way of handling it could be a bit off.
They're losing it after they've already played it. It's like returning a book you've already read or a movie you've already watched. They're not returning games like TF2 or Black Ops, they're returning games like Alan Wake, Dead Space and Enslaved:Oddessy to the west. Games that only have the single player to stand upon. These games stayed in the hands of the owner for about a week before the store buys them back for 1/6th the selling price and then sells them to some other player for three times what they sold it.

Try Australia, I have yet to see a Gamestop store anywhere in my country.

OT: With my above comment stated, this isn't a common occurrence here. We have GAME, EB games, jb hi-fi and even places like dick smith and big w have acceptable game supplies. Especially game, because they treat you pretty well there.

[sub]Too bad EB games get most of the exclusive content...[/sub]
That's what I meant. Countries where Gamestop doesn't exist is an example of a place without Gamestops. My post was a bit ambiguous, I know. I am Australian.
Ah that was sarcasm. Sorry, it's a bit hard to judge these things over text. And yay for being Australian, is that treating you well?
You bet your drop bears it is!
I see your drop bears and raise you two kangaroos and a boomerang.
Oh yeah? Well how about these wonderful firelighter lizards? You squeeze it's neck and it shoots fire, perfect for smokers!
Pah! My didgeridoo bazooka can beat that! It even plays music.

It's because when you buy a used copy, the people who made the game don't get a cut of that. So basically they see it as horrible.

OT: I generally try my best to stick with GAME rather than GameStop.

I hate GameStop.

And GAME have really good pc game deals all the time. I got 75% off Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising when I bought Dawn of War 2.
Yeah, I see what the store is doing is wrong, but saying that people selling something they no longer need is wrong, is, in fact, wrong. Once I own the game I should be able to sell it on or give it to whoever I like. Sort of like everything else I buy. Why do you think there are used book stores?

The only game shop near me is a GAME (I'm in the UK). I don't even think we have Gamestop over here. I actually quitelike GAME; the second hand section is usually excellent, and there are usually good deals on and good slightly older games out too. Plus, they sell some sweet plushies sometimes.

Ah, I see. Well I do agree with that at least. It's just annoying when people act as if on-selling of used games is something out of the ordinary and doesn't happen with anything else.

There's GAME, Gamestation, CEX and NinjaGames near where I live. GAME are the only ones that actually seem to sell new games, though. All I ever see in Gamestation is a buncha pre-owned ones.

Game and Gamestation are both owned by the same company now. And I was just checking to see if gamestop was too. Its not as it happens but apparent are or were attempting to buy game.
Gamestation was so much better when it was Electronics Boutique... But hey, GAME, has decent customer service, and I suppose their not AS bad as Gamestop.

[sub][sub]I bought my first game from an Electronics Boutique... =[ I miss it...[/sub][/sub]

I have never seen a gamestop where I live. The two main game stores are GAME and GameStation, I get new games at GAME and pre-owned/hand in my games at GameStation.

You do realise that EB Games, which there are plenty of here, are actually owned by Gamestop. Its like a plague that is spreading across the world.

We do have plenty of retailers that sell games aside from EB and stuff though. The Warehouse, JBs etc. We even used to have an independent locally owned chain until that was bought out by guess who...EB.
Huh never knew that, ah well we still have an abundance =D

People here generally go to JB HiFi to get cheaper games, still normally $100 on release though...

Around here, there's only WalMart and stores like it (Target, K-Mart)
Though we do have a local comic book store that does have games. I've seen older ones there, I don't know if it gets new ones it sells.

That's about it.

there's a Play n, Trade in my home town and it's much nicer and personal than any game stop I've ever been to.
