I was downloading portal for my mac on steam, it only needed 30 min. more, so I decide to play some Torchlight, while playing the power went out, when it came back, I turned my mac on to see what had happened to the game, all it says is: Download starting.... (its been like this for a day) I pressed the play button, and it starts to validate the files, when it says that all the files are validated (must mean it completely downloaded) it says i cant play it cuz the servers are full.
Im lost.
Is the game not fully downloaded, are the servers full cuz Valve has been giving this game for free and tons of people are playing it or did steam just shoot itself in the face?

My computer is protected from blackouts so that cant be it.
please help.
I dont want to go play outside....

Try right-clicking on it in Steam and clicking "verify cache" or whatever is most similar; this will check to see if the game needs to be repaired. You're probably going to have to delete it all and download it all over again, though. Just because your computer is "protected from blackouts" doesn't mean that you're not going to end up with corrupted data when the power gets suddenly cut off; that just means that your computer shouldn't get damaged from it.

Welcome to Steam, what you have just encountered is effectively what ever PC players has had to put up with with Steam and a major release since the software first appeared. Steam / Valve are notorious for having some of the worst server support when it comes to supporting majpr new releases, every single big name release of the last 3 years including some updates for major games (L4D and L4D2) have been accompanied by slow or totally unresponsive servers as they get overloaded by the high number of people wanting to play the games.

Since Steam is very very new for Mac chances are the servers will be over loaded by the sheer weight of Mac based nerdgasm at the prospect of playing games that have worked very well for the last 3 years on PC. I would suggest you either try logging on at quieter net activity times. This is will vary depending upon what country you live in, either that or wait for a week or two until the initial madness has passed or Valve get their finger out of their ass and sort the servers.

Another question, will i be able to play the game unit the 24th? or is that when i cant download it anymore?
You can download it for free until the 24th, it is then yours for ever and yup as someone who paid for it I am a tad annoyed.

...Are you sure about that? I can't find anything from Valve that makes it completely clear either way.

If the OP wants to play Portal, I would recommend that he does it before the 24th.

It's availible for download until the 24th.
Once it's on your computer, it's yours...
My download had no problem, it's the patching that held me up.
Right before it was done, the patch stopped and said that the servers were overloaded, so I tried two more times before it finished and loaded up the game.
There it sat at the menu screen (without the buttons) for awhile before I quit out, retried, and then began playing...
I had no big issues, although I'm not using a mac...
So yeah, uninstall and redownload and it might work better...
The servers shouldn't be too crowded since almost everyone knows about it and has already downloaded portal...
