I got a PS3! But I have a few questions....

So I finally joined back into this generation of gaming. I picked up a 250GB PS3 the other day along with LittleBigPlanet and Infamous.

I have yet to play multiplayer or online, but I have a few questions.

First off, I've been hearing that a lot of games don't let people sign into two profiles at once. that players besides the first player are always the equivilant of an Xbox live guest. Is this true?

Second, Are there any good third party controllers? Or should I just throw down the cash for a normal dualshock?

Third, whats the best thing under $20?

Thanks, and it's good to be back in this generation.

Most games do not let you sign into two accounts, but games like Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 do (there is probabaly more more but im not so sure)

Controlers, ummm i dunno.

I don't know $, British you see.

But the Orange Box, Pain, and possibly some older games are your best bet for the cheap stuff. Though you could sign up to the PSN plus for 3 months i think thats about $15 (£11.99)
you will get some free / cheap content from the Playstation Store.

As far as I know you can't sign into two different accounts on one PS3. On games like resistance it comes up with your user name and (2) next to it.

You have to be careful with 3rd party controllers, Sony have released updates that makes them not work. I would ask about returns if you do go ahead and get one.

I have to ask, why did you get a 250GB? Why not just get the smallest one and change the hard drive? I have heard it is much cheaper to do it that way.

Most of the platinum hits are well under $20, £20 or whatever. Uncharted one and two and Killzone 2 to name a few.

you never get to log in more than 2 char at once but some games like lbp let you use the avatar of other profiles as seconde third or fourth player and even save's their progress

-well ive been able to log into my account while another gets logged into his account before, so that shouldnt be a problem.
-third party controllers are shit, dont waste your money.
-good games under 20 bucks? hmmm, well the resistance games probably are by now and those were pretty good. same with the army of two games, assassins creed 1 probably is, not sure about AC2 but probably not

Definitely look into the Uncharted series. Dunno about controllers though, I've always just used Dualshocks.

Last I saw Valkyria Chronicles was under $20 at Gamestop/EB Games and that was a pretty neat game, as well is Demon's Souls and that was a blast as well.

I got the 250 because It was $350 for it, along with Little Big Planet and Infamous. It seemed like a good idea. It may not have been.

I don't know much about PS3s, except that you need to get Uncharted 2. I don't know if it's $20, but whatever the price, it's worth it.

Actually, since you have a brand new console, I'm sure some friends won't mind lending you games they aren't currently playing.
Assuming you know people who own PS3s. Best way to catch up with gaming on a console that's many years old.

Dont spend money on third party controllers. They are almost always terrible in the long run. I know the official controllers are way overpriced but its still the better option.

i'm such a goddam loner i cant answer either of your first two questions, but as for best under $20 game, try uncharted, the original. it is amazing by itself but also sets you up for what is in my opinion the finest game ever created. buy it used.

Get motherfucking Warhawk.

Now. $15 and it kicks total ass.

Other than that:

1) It only treats the second persona as a guest, no signing in with a second profile.
2) Not sure
But why does it only let one profile in? What if I wanted to play something like Call of Duty, but couch co-op? How would my friends keep their classes?

Get. Demon's Souls. NAO.

One of the best PS3 exclusives out there IMO and it's not nearly as hard as it was made out to be.

Well, first off, welcome to PSN, if you need any online help later on down the line just add me when you get ur PS3 online, I'm 'captaincabbage' on PSN.

There are a few I've bumped into that don't allow two sign ins at one, most notably SARPBC and Castle Crashers inexplicably. It's really wierd considering not only can you play on multiple accounts on Castle Crashers on the Xbox360, but you can play on multiple accounts on LBP. So why'd they choose not to allow it for Castle Crashers?
When it comes down to it, it's no big deal tho, since all you have to do is play on the account with the savedata and everyone will have their favorite knight ready to go.

As for controllers, I'd recommend sticking to Sony controllers. It's not that there are other brands that aren't good, I just find that the Sony ones feel the best and are all under wannanty, QA, etc.

If you're looking for epic stuff for under $20, I just got Oblivion: GOTY edition for $12 at my local EB Games (I live in Australia btw).
There's a bunch of good games to get for cheap, you just gotta look around. Try out pre-owned games too, since they have to be in perfect working condition otherwise the store can't sell them. Pre-owned is probably the best place for bargains.
As you'd expect tho, it varies from store to store. I did manage to find Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time for about $30 as well, plus many, many other games for various prices.

Hope I was of help ^^
