I got a PS3! But I have a few questions....

Get motherfucking Warhawk.

Now. $15 and it kicks total ass.

Other than that:

1) It only treats the second persona as a guest, no signing in with a second profile.
2) Not sure

But why does it only let one profile in? What if I wanted to play something like Call of Duty, but couch co-op? How would my friends keep their classes?

If you're going for couch style multiplayer I'd definitely say Modern Warfare 2 is the best choice, since each person (up to four) can make their own profile and level up individually, a feature which was painfully absent in Black Ops.
I reckon the levels in Modern Warfare 2 are a bit better too. Plus Spec-Ops mode. Ow LAAAAWWWWDDYYY the fun me and my friends have had in that.

But the Orange Box, Pain, and possibly some older games are your best bet for the cheap stuff.

Don't buy the Orange Box on the PS3. It's a terrible, terrible port. If you get it on anything, get it on PC. And I've heard pretty mediocre things about Pain. Better to buy cheap good titles rather than cheap crappy titles.

Both Warhawk and Wipeout HD are excellent cheap buys through the Playstation Store. Otherwise, look for a used copy of Resistance: Fall of Man, Uncharted 1 or any others in those franchises. Killzone 2 is also excellent. The first two should probably be fairly cheap now too.

Pain is not bad if you get a few friends round, that and i got it for like £5

Best third party controllers are: Power A pro - Much like a xbox controller
My contoller - No idea what it is, i just found it and its a
Beast.
£20 - Older games - Killzone 2, WARHAWK, Resistance 2 all up among my favourites.

PS3 games are region free so you can get games from anywhere and you'll be fine.

Get Uncharted 1, probably pretty cheap now, if you like it, get Uncharted 2! By far my favourite exclusives at the moment for PS3

As for controller, you can get an attachment to put on your R2 and L2 buttons to make them feel more like triggers if that's the problem, they cost me about £2 and they're really good
