I hate Gamestop's PS2 controllers.

So I bought a used slim PS2 over the holidays, hoping to enjoy some of my more favored games. It was my parents who bought the system as a gift, and I had no problem with them getting a used one, as it was cheaper and they are guaranteed to be refurbished. Christmas Day comes, I open the box, and I see a slim PS2 in rather good shape. All is well. Except for the fact that instead of giving me an official Dual Shock 2 controller, they dealt me a shitty Gamestop mark off. What I don't understand is at the same store I've seen used Dual Shocks for 15 bucks sold separately, but of course they couldn't put two and two together. I guess I don't hate the controller completely, although the lack of touch sensitive buttons and horrid analog sticks make me miss the Dual Shock 2 so much more. Anyone else deal with these 3rd party POSs?

EDIT:
In case you're wondering, it's this one...

It's because either: That's the controller the previous owner had when they traded it in, or they didn't have any controller at all and had to be charged for that controller. Even if the latter's the case, I can't imagine that they didn't have ANY dualshocks around to sell instead of those.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw it. However, the controller is in brand new shape, with zero wear and tear, but the console itself has a few dinks. It's obviously a brand new store brand controller.

I'm not losing sleep over the matter, it just sort of vexes me. Mind you, I'm going to pick up a Dual Shock 2 in good time, the PS2 just isn't the same without it.

Yeah they probably had to charge the previous owner for a controller when they traded it in. I mean, a Dualshock is like, what? 15 bucks? And you can totally trade in the crappy one for a couple dollars too.

I remember on my PS1 i got a green see through secondary controller which i preferred to the ugly grey one. I played Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone so much that i got severe hand-ache from the tacky piece of shit. I don't know why they're allowed to sell them. The buttons usually stop working properly after a while, they look terrible compared to the actual console...just give us an official controller.

I've not experienced any gamestop products as they don't exist as gamestop in Australia, but they own EB games so it's similar.

I've used Warehouse (A cheapo store, they sell plastic plants and Somy or Fanasonic Hi-Fi's) brand Controller for a couple of weeks when my dad ripped the wires out fo my genuine controller by wrapping the cord around the controller.

It was the exact same shape but it was made of a tranparent plastic and the buttons were laggy and just didn't cut it.

I also had a run in with a Mad Catz Ergonomic which was great until it stopped working, the wire was about a metre or 3 and a bit feet longer than normal and it was easier to hold, only lived a month or so after the 1 year warantee expired though. Pretty decent over all for a 3rd party peripheral.

Are you sure the buttons aren't pressure sensitive, OP? Because I almost exclusively buy 3rd party controllers, and I can tell you, if they aren't pressure sensitve, then gamestop gave you a Dual Shock 1 knock off, not a Dual Shock 2 one. Even Madcatz controllers are pressure sensitive, and have been since the PS2 was new.

I know for a fact that the controller model is not pressure sensitive. I tested three different Gamestop controllers in Metal Gear Solid 2. None of the controller's Square buttons were able to be gently pressed in order to aim assault rifles (they would just automatically fire the weapon without aiming). Looking further into it, I tested the controller on a gamepad to keyboard mapping program to see if it was able to be tweaked, but to no avail.

The the 360 controller made by madkatz is pretty good however. It even has a superior directional pad to the standard. The only issue is the looser analogs. I use it as my PC controller.

You want some good analogs? Use the Dual Shock 3. I could have sex with those analogs.

My brother ripped the rubber off the analogs on the dualshock 3 doing 720s. Now they are a little uncomfortable to use.

What does it seem like everyone else in the world has viciously abused their analogs for the Dual Shock 3? Seriously, every person I have ever met with a PS3 other than myself has torn the covers off.

Yeah, speaking at someone who works at gamestop (perhaps only seasonally) I can say that the gamestop branded products are almost universally piles of crap. Gamestop is a retail company, not a manufacturer, and the only reason they sell controllers is so that they can shell more money out from you that only goes to them.

Not to mention their evil schemes when it comes to trade-ins. But that's a whole other argument in itself.
