Do you have something you don't like but for some reason you enjoy it in a certain game/movie/book etc?

I hate turn based combat but I like it in Poke'mon.
I hate gore but I've never had a problem with it in games and the movie Braindead.
I hate when comic movies betray the source material, but I like Spider-Man 3.

Yours?

Yeah I'm going to second the Pokemon thing. Can't usually stand turn based combat but I love me some Pokemon.

I don't really like stealth games but I love the Batman: Arkham games.

I don't like sports games but I like the Mario football games and I quite liked the original two FIFA Street games.

OT: I don't really like D&D combat, but I love Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age.

I don't really care for open-world sandboxes, but I loved the Hong Kong in Sleeping Dogs.

I don't really enjoy 'realistic' racing games (as in based in reality, not "accurate simulation"), but I've loved all of the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit games.

I don't particularly like shitty scripts, but I still enjoy any game ever, and the Star Wars prequels.

Quick-time events. I really hate quick-time events, but somehow The Walking Dead makes them work. For the first time ever, button-mashing actually did manage to add to my feeling of panic and struggle as opposed to just feeling like a tacked-on feature in order to create an illusion of giving the player control during a cutscene. And then, y'know, just being a very cheap death. Another plus for The Walking Dead is that it gave you time to actually react to what was happening. I did die a handful of times from the QTEs during my play-through, but it was fully my own stupidity and/or panic in those situations.

:D

I totally did that on purpose.

Though, while Spider-Man 3 and Attack of the Clones/Revenge of the Sith share a lot of similar issues, in my opinion the action sequences in the Star Wars films were at least interesting, which is more than I can say for Spider-Man, whose most interesting scene was... well...

Y'know to be honest I still don't see what the big deal about that was. I know the difference in the comic is that the suit tortured Peter for a while and in this case made him only mildly more aggressive but overall just gave him a lot of previously unknown confidence. That's where it seems reasonable to me, Peter's a lovable dork. Dorkiness + Excessive Confidence = Embarrassing display without shame.

On top of that, the part in the bar also makes sense because he's angry at MJ. MJ's dream is show business, and what does he do? Shows her up by taking attention from her. That's a pretty bad thing to do to someone wanting to be an actor.

I know all the problems, but I just enjoy it XD

Well, really, that's probably my favorite part from the movie, even though I think it's one of the worst, most tonally inconsistent, ridiculously-shot segments in all of cinema history.

That scene rests firmly in the "so bad it's good" territory for me, but unfortunately the rest of the movie isn't nearly so amusing or interesting in my eyes.

The only thing I don't like from a character standpoint is Eddie Brock/Venom. And even on that, Topher Grace still gave it his all. It's not his fault he was working with a horrible script; And there's always the fact that it's at least still far better than X-Men Origins, which retconned things in its own franchise.

The problem is that no person would actually -DO- that. Even a dork with sudden confidence would do that. It's obviously just a moment to make the audience laugh at how dorky he is. Me personally, I liked the changes for Spider-Man 3, I thought playing Eddie as a dark reflection of Peter was a great idea. But the problem with the dancing and such is that they first play it straight, saying that this ultra-confident Peter is making him cool and attractive. THEN they make it "Oh yeah, dorks can't get chicks" by having him go creeper.

Oh yeah, then he hits Mary Jane.

Now OT: I hate the original Spider-Man trilogy but I love the changes to his character that were made.

I hate FPS's except for Fallout New Vegas and the Elder Scroll series.

I hate non-eroge Visual Novel games except for the Ace Attorney games.

I hate dating sims but I love the game True Love.

I hate comic fans but I love comics.

I hate MMO's but I love Star Trek Online.

I hate Online Multiplayer but love Mass Effect 3's multiplayer.

I hate a lot of modern anime but I love Madoka Magica and Highschool of the Dead.

Wrong. You've never met my family or friends. They have honest to god done something like that without irony and without knowing of this movie.

But they never imply "dorks can't get chicks". Peter has 2 other very attractive women that like him in 3 with and without the symbiote (Gwen was more a friend pre-symbiote but definitely Ursula). The dance scene in the bar does kinda imply that, but the scene is there because Peter was angry and under the symbiote's influence was willing to just do an impulsive and hurtful thing to both Gwen, Eddie, and MJ all at once. Seriously, that little act there is a middle finger to all 3 of them.

I don't think you can genuinely hate something if there's an example of it you like. If you like the turn based combat in Pokemon, then you don't hate turn based combat. In fact you like turn based combat, you just don't usually like other games that happen to have it. Your reason for not liking those other games must be for a deeper reason than because they have that combat style.

I don't care for Racing Games, but I love Mario Kart.

I don't like puzzle games, but Tetris is still fun to play.

I don't like water levels, but I like the infamous Water Temple.

I've never been a big fan of RTS games, but I love Pikmin and enjoyed Halo Wars. Probably because they were made to be more simple.

But New Vegas and Elder Scrolls aren't really FPS games. You CAN play them in third-person, and they're both much more focused on the RPG aspect. Well... with the possible exception of Oblivion and most of Skyrim.

Anyway...

I hate turn-based combat but I love it Fallout 1 and 2... and in XCOM: Enemy Unknown... and I strongly suspect that I'll love it in Transistor whenever that next SuperGiant Games work of art comes out.

I hate CCG-style videogames, but I love Magic: The Gathering in all of its incarnations.

I hate spin-off novels for tabletop games and video-games, but I love the DXHR novel, and the Ciaphus Cain series (though I've only read a preview of that one so far... unfortunately).

I hate it when games constantly reach for the obvious, groan-inducing jokes, but I love UnEpic and the Sam and Max series.

I hate QTEs, but I love them in The Walking Dead.

I hate XNA games (mainly because most of them refuse to work on my pc) but I love Dust: An Elysian Tail and Bleed.

I hate cosmetic DLCs, but I love Mrs. Foster, the Robot one, and all of the Steampunk packs for Killing Floor. (Now why the hell don't they just leave the zombies in their Steampunk forms? They're MUCH more interesting that way!)

You know, it's funny. That made me think of the Kobiyashi Maru in the new Star Trek films. Watching it on its own, I find it hilarious. Watching it in the context of the movie, I probably should have got kicked out of the theater. >.> Not really, because it was so loud in there a jet engine wouldn't be heard. But still.

I don't like QTE, but I thing Heavy Raid used them well to make the action more exciting for the story they were trying to tell.

I generally dislike anything with zombies, but I love the Dead Rising series and The Walking Dead game

I don't like regenerating health, but I think it worked in Skyrim... yeah, I just said that *flame shields up!*
