Escapist, I realized not too long ago, that I'm dating my mother. Not literally of course, but the girl that I have fallen for is so much like my mother it scares me. They both have brown/reddish hair, both are scorpios, both have the same interests and hobbies. Hell, my girlfriend even gets the illnesses as my mother. So what should I do? Should I try and find a girl who's different; or just accept this relationship as it is?

Why do you need to do something different?

If you're enjoying it and aren't too bothered with the mother part, then who cares?

You only think she's similar to your Mum because you're looking for it.

There you go, sadly, our time is up, bill is in the mail :p

Freud was a bullshitter for the most part, I think. Just ignore it. You're only susceptible to these theories because of your latent penis-worry and hedgehog-complex.

Well they do say that men are naturally focusing on women resembling their mother.

What should you do? I think you know the answer to that.

You need to have sex with your mother.
you know, eliminate the middle man.

I'm not sure where to start...

How would you tell her? Sorry love but we got to split up...your kinda my mum.

Why you split up with your girlfriend? Felt like I was going out with you mum.

Freud was a freak...just coz he fancied his parents doesn't mean we should listen to that mad man.

If he said that now...we would call him a weirdo. Anyway...forget it lad. Your looking for something thats not there.

Well, if you are dating her, you obviously wanted to be with her. So why let similarities bother you if that's what you wanted?

Seeing as how nostalgia affects every gamer to think of old games as the best thing ever, I'm pretty sure the person who raised you will have the attributes of your ideal woman.

It doesn't hurt to date someone that reminds you of a loving figure in your life. Just as long as it doesn't get really creepy.

Change your name to Oedipus and it'll all work out fine :p

OT: Tbh if you're happy enough I would't worry about it, it's possible for a person to read a little too much in to things I think.

Freud's Oedipal Complex theory was one that he threw out there because the public was going to lynch him for a different discovery (women are also sexual creatures) so he needed a new one right away after he took the old one off the table and did minimal research for it.

If you want true symmetry, look at Pavlov and understand that your mother made you happy so you associate those characteristics with you being happy, so you seek them out in other women.

OT: If you are enjoying yourself, don't change anything.

As long as you don't go Oedipus and kill your father you'll be fine.
:Oedipus gets such a bad rap, at least he didn't know about his parents until after the fact.

OT: Do what makes you happy.

This is true with animals as well. Did you know that if you let an animal be raised by a female of any other species and a male of its own species it will naturally be attracted to those of the mothers species. Its weird as but i know for a fact they tested it on sheep/goats and it worked.

They say the same things about women too; how we tend to go for men who resemble their father. It gives us the feeling that we're protected and well looked after, just as our father did when we were young.

If you like her and get along with her then whats the problem? Shes not actually your mother! I think you're just reading too much into it, or maybe you're just looking for an excuse to dump her.
