So my BF2142 isn't working on my "new" PC (Quotation marks because it's pretty, like, not new anymore) but anyway, I've been trying for ages to get it working but it just won't. It installs perfectly fine but when I try to run it, the splash screen comes up followed instantaniously (sort of) by a message box reading "Please make sure the 2142 disc is in the drive" even though the disc is in fact in the drive and I can hear it spinning.

I've tried re-installing it, I've tried the whole 100% removal uninstall then re-install, I've tried other people's copies to make sure it's not the disc, I've tried borrowing a friend who downloaded it's EA downloader to download it and use my info (but EA are lame and it doesn't let you), I've tried contacting EA outlining my problem and everything I've tried to resolve it only to get a response along the lines of "wow that's cool, we're going to go and investigate it". They haven't gotten back to me since, and this was a long time ago.

I honestly can't think of anything else other than buying it again but the download version. This is one of my favourite FPSs of all time and I am determined to get it working at any cost.

This is as much as a hating EA topic as it is a desperate attempt to find someone who's ever had a similar problem and can resolve my issue.

Please...

Get a no-CD crack. I don't norammly recommend them (Since they are usually associated with theft), but I've had similar problems on my PC, and a NO-CD usually works like a charm.

What he says. Damn, I created an account just to reply to that and he beat me to it. Yeah, some part of your pc (dvd/OS/etc etc) isn't able to read the copy protection properly. Use a No-CD crack to bypass this. Nice and legal since you own the original game.

Urm, is it just me, or does this sound more like a problem with your computer rather than EA.

Also, try getting something like Daemon Tools or another program that can make and run disc images. That could fix it.

Either that or just kick your computer, reboot it, and try again, or get a new DVD drive.

Oh that reminds me, are you using a DVD drive? Because 2142 is a DVD-Rom not a CD
I do agree but it could be a number of problems with my PC and I'm not willing to dish out cash when I could just shout at EA for getting everything wrong ever. I will try those things though, excluding kick it.

I didn't know you are alound to make a hating topic, doesn't that count as a rant? All well, I stopped buying EA games as soon as I saw Kain's Wrath.

What the hell happened to Westwood? They actually had tallent!

Since EA probably uses some sort of copy protection that doesn't work well with your DVD-player firmware, I'd also suggest using a no-cd crack. Be sure to backup the original .exe though, for patching purposes and such, or if the crack somehow doesn't work all that well.

My DVD drive doesn't seem to play nice with the 7series of SecuRom, which usually leads me to buy the disk in the store, never open it and then download the ISO.

Ohh well...I Liked BF:2142

I would suggest a no cd-crack but I think someone else already did.

Well then... this isn't really a cry for help, it's just a rant >_>

Have fun I guess. Btw, all EA products work fine with me and my computer's 2 and a half years olds now, so yeah.
It is partially a rant :) EA are awful in my opinion. They never give me any good support but I hate them more for the fact that whenever something falls into their hands, they decide to leave their mark on it by making it shit. People have given me useful feedback here (including you) so I totally don't regret this topic :p
