And that is saving money! On Christmas Day i will be going to New Brunswick to see my family and I might drive my car there. So I've been wondering if my brother and I take my car (my brothers coming too) is it cheaper to split the gas or one of us pay every time we get gas. So say I put 30 dollars of gas into my tank and I pay 15 and my brother pays the other half, would that be cheaper (for me) then having to pay the whole thing myself?

Say you stop 6 times, 30$ each time.

30 x 3 from you, 30 x 3 from him. 90$ from you, 90$ from him.

Lets say you stop 6 times, 30$ each time.

30 x 6 = 180$. You split that up, and it's 90$ from you, 90$ from him.

Learn how to do some goddamn math.

It all depends on how many times you stop to put fuel in the car, what it costs at each gas station, and who fuels up first in the case of an odd number of stops.

If you don't know how many times you'll have to stop and fuel up, split it 50/50 each time. That way you'll pay the same amount as your brother and don't run the risk of putting more fuel in them him.

Edit
On another note, I assume that they'll increase the gas prices over there on Christmas like they do here in Australia, so I recommend that you fill a jerry can up within the next week or so, so that when you go away you can fuel up without being shafted by the gas companies.

Well if we have a full tank from our starting point....we'll only stop once, so do that math!

I'm REALLY bad at math, in my head

One time, if we have a full tank when we start

Ok, so if you stop only once, and it costs 30$

Either 30$ from you, or 30$ from him. It costs one of you 30$ and one of you nothing.

Now, lets say you stop only once, and it costs 30$

It costs a total of 30$ so it's 15$ from you, and 15$ from him.

You have no excuse being that bad at math.

Split it up 50/50. You can alternate, but if you stop an odd number of times one of you will get the short end of the stick.

How about just one of you pays for all of the gas during the trip, and then at the end you look at the receipts, divide by two, and then the other just pays the first back for however much it was?

Now that I have a real world application for math, I will be paying attention in Pre-Calculus, not just staring out the window...

If you stop one time, than ONLY ONE OF YOU WILL BE PAYING GAS MONEY!
It's not that hard. Maybe 4th grade math. Say the gas costs 30$. $30(Amount of money it costs for gas) x 1(gas stop) = $30 that only one person pays.
Which leads to the dilemma: Do you want to screw your brother over and make him pay first, or do you want to split the costs and be a good brother.

Trust me, pre-calc is the perfect sleepy-time class. The book is just so comfortable. Most of it could be done either on a calculator or by using algebra/trig.

this makes me laugh, when my brother and I went to Quebec for the gorillaz concert, i tricked him (he has a poor memory....or maybe he's absent minded) and made him pay like three times in a row or two times, so funny
