I know this one might be a little bit lame, but I want to know if it sounds good because I am self conscious that way.

Now we all have played fighting games, be it Mortal Combat, Tekken, Soul Calibur. And what do all of these games have in common; you are all over powered freak with magic powers of some sort. Then, I got to thinking, how good would be a fighting game without the super powers, if you were a normal kid in a very bad high school.

Here?s the concept, you go to this new high school and find out every one are all bad ass fighters and to gain any respect at all you must fight your way to the "final boss" and this would have no super powers no flashy effects none of that kind of stuff, just normal high school kids doing all these fights.

I see some god positives in this too, the cheating factor would go down into hell, i remember playing Mortal Combat and Tekken, don?t matter and there is always this one special move you can do that if you do it over and over your win is guaranteed, since this is purely realistic there would be nothing like a flying sharp hat, or an ice beam or sending some in the air a hundred feet with an over sized sword.

Last thing, in the story mode you can upgrade your guy in a sort of talent tree kind of way. By this I mean focus on a certain aspect of fighting; my main ideas were having each character with three ways of battle that you can focus on. An example can be grappling, acrobatics or just pure out damage but you lose the combos. Lastly, you could import the upgraded guy to fight your friend?s upgraded guys if they have any and see who has the best guy.

What do you guys think a good idea for a fighting game or not?

On realistic fighting: While no game that I know of currently simulates a real street fight, Virtua Fighter is the closest to a martial arts tournament. It doesn't have any ice beams, most of the fighting styles are from the real world, and the only "super power" you have is the ability to perform juggle combos.

On upgrading your fighter: Check out 1994's freeware PC fighter, One Must Fall 2097. You earn money through successful fights and spend it upgrading various statistics of your fighter like "stun resistance" or "leg speed." Keep in mind that fighter fans take it as a point of honor that everyone has an equal playing field, so you'd need to have separate "regular" and "upgraded" leaderboards.

On the high school premise: Check out the "Rival Schools" series of fighting games from Capcom. I can also remember a couple manga series on this premise. Generally, adding high school drama to anything is always fun :p

On the "cheating factor": This is a design problem, not a "super powers" problem. It's just as easy to dominate a game for free with Steve's ordinary punches in Tekken as it is with Raiden's sharp hat in Mortal Kombat, and both problems can be fixed by making the move less effective.
