I got to try out MW2 this weekend, and it was pretty cool, whatever. Not exactly what I'd call a 7mil seller, but that might be because I'd just finished playing COD4 for the first time just a week earlier and absolutely loved it so there was no hope of MW2 living up to any sort of expectations. ANYWAY...

Granted the PS3 controller doesn't have trigger-shaped triggers like an XBox controller, but it does at least have triggers. So tell me, PS3 owners - why map the fire button to the bumper? I guess it's kind of nit-picky, but part of what made me buy an XBox recently is that the triggers are just great - playing an fps is actually a little more emersive when you have something that feels like a gun trigger under your finger. So when I sat down at the PS3 I go to pull the trigger, and out comes a grenade and the general is barking at me to stop dicking around and press R1 to fire.

-Is this common to PS3 shooters?
-Is there a practical reason for it?
-Generally, WTF?

Well, I think it has to do with the fact that the PS1 and 2 didn't have triggers and instead just had buttons like R1 and L1 in back of them. So, just for the sake of staying the same, I guess. But actually, I'm more comfortable with this, since you don't have to move your fingers to press the buttons mapped in front of the triggers like you do on the Xbox controller. When I got Borderlands, I even changed the control scheme so that I had it this way, but I guess that's just because I'm used to it.

Anyways, you might want to check if there's a custom controller setting you could use to change it.

Yes, It's fairly common, due to the L2 and R2 button being slippery for many.

You can customize controller layout to "flipped" in options, if you want to aim and fire using L2 and R2. Also, there is third party "realtriggers" attachments that make the L2 and R2 buttons feel more "triggerlike" and less prone to slipping. I use them on my controllers.

I've heard those are really good! I'd be sure to get them if I had my own PS3, but sadly this was at a friend's house. I wonder if anyone makes trigger grips for the xbox, I'd love to have a metallic slotted texture on the right trigger! Although that might ruin it for driving games.

Next time I go over I'll make sure and ask if I may change the controls, I was getting my ass whooped in spots and I think it's because my big hands were kinda crunched up riding those bumpers.

Wow, I'd definitely say that's just how you're used to it. I couldn't imagine having to play it that way. But I've got kinda big hands and meaty fingers and the xbox controller fits me to a tee - the trigger's in just the right spot and the bumpers are tucked away right under my second knuckle, so it's like using one finger on two axes - curl for trigger, sweep for bumper. I guess that's why I never got down with the playstation, I got big boxer hands.
