Remember the PS1? That lovable gray square with the silly purple discs? I need one. I know what you're thinking, "Just go buy one on craigslist or something, there's only a million of them!" While this is true, it doesn't help me. You see, I am looking for a very specific PS1.

Those of you who were avid gamers in the PS1 era will remember that there was several hardware revisions, and not all of them were as obvious as the size reduction of the PSOne. In the very early days of PS1, the console did not have the all-in-one AV port that the vast majority of PS1s have; the first PS1s had plain old RCA jacks on the back, red-white-yellow style.

I need to find one of these. One of the ones with the RCA jacks. I'm totally down with paying whatever the going rate for a PS1 is these days if someone has one of these, so please, check the back of your closet! PM me, reply here, whatever!

Why not get a PS2? as I recall, they all have RCA jacks and will play all PS1 games (and are probably more common and not much more expensive)

I got an old PS1 at home, but chances are it's not what you are looking for. Still, I might check it.

Side note, may wanna put down what territory you are in so they know if you need pal or NTSC.
Also when ebaying you may get better results if you can find out what the serial numbers of the type you want are.
NTSC preferred, but it's not actually going to be used for playing games, so if someone has a PAL one, I'll take it and just use a wall adapter.

As noted above, it's not for playing games. There's something specific to that model of PS1 that I need.

Oh, the model number of the one I'm looking for is SCPH-1001. As far as I know, it's the only model that actually has the red/white RCA jacks.

You can post a "Want It Now" add on eBay.

& Here; there are 137 used PS1s on Amazon. You can contact the sellers & ask them questions. http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-System-Video-Game-Console/dp/B000K6TOK6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1271320178&sr=8-3

You can also ask on Yahoo Answers if anyone has one & would be willing to sell.

Hmm, what mysterious purpose do you have for wanting this? Intriguing :p

I had one of those, I sold it, ooh, 12 years ago. Sorry!

The mysterious purpose is this: somehow, when Sony developed these original PS1s, they accidentally designed a nearly perfect player for audio CDs. Some magic combination of the tracking ability of the laser, the DAC (digital-to-analog converter), and the preamp circuit in these units combined to make a CD player that rivals the sound quality of audiophile-grade dedicated CD source units.

Along with being a gamer, I'm also an audio nerd, and thus want one of these for my sound system. Unfortunately, when they removed the RCA jacks from the body, they also replaced the DAC with an inferior design.

So your looking for a SCPH-1001 Playstation (NTSC Original Hardware revision - RCA's and the more older less reliable Lazer Carriage one)

Ebay is properly your best bet but be ready to possibly have to find a new Lazer unit for them.

Ive also noticed some people refer to them as Playstation Audiophile Version, so maybe you will want to search under that.

B-b-bump it up for daytime crew. Are these really as uncommon as the lack of response in this thread would indicate?
