A polar bear would be the best overall fighter if it were legal to hold fights between various animals. Try and prove this theory wrong... here are a few popular ideas I've heard, and the counterpoint for each:

A lion or tiger would probably be able to go a few rounds with the bear, but anything that needs to get its shots in close to the bear would more than likely fall victim to the bear's own physical strength and deceptive speed. I think the bear would win, but it would certainly come out with a lot of wounds and be very tired afterwards.

The komodo dragon would certainly be a challenge for a polar bear because of its ability to basically poison its enemy by biting it with its bacteria saturated mouth. But, like all animals that get close enough to the bear, it would probably get mauled pretty well unless it got a couple of solid bites in to vital areas and weakened the bear. The polar bear's neck is covered with thick skin and blubber and doing significant damage would be quite tough.

As for a wolf, it might be able to take the bear down, but as I previously said, anything that requires close combat to finish off the bear will probably lose. Also, wolves usually prey on the weakest members of a herd.

I say the penguin would massacre that bear. Even without weapons the penguin would just waddle up to the bear, letting it's guard down because it wouldn't suspect anything, then blamo! The penguin would instigate the 5 point exploding heart technique and the bear would die instantly.

There is only one way to test this: write Polar Bear into Scribblenauts and then send it through the gauntlet of the animal kingdom.

Win

Why does it have to be polar bears specifically?

Edit:

A valid point, but your username has obviously tainted your judgment due to penguin bias.

Because polar bears have many advantages that other bears do not. They're avid swimmers, are built to withstand extreme temperatures, and have the ability to fight effectively in water and on land.

Sorry OP, but I'm backing megapenguinx and his ninja penguin in that fight.

But they again my vicious rabbit would kill them all.

[sub]So I win.[/sub]

Penguin, would win. Hands down, can polar bears survive the antarctic winter while carrying an egg. I think not no they hibernate, penguins win by shear badassery.

I also throw my chainsaw badger in the mix for bear killer.

It appears I've stumbled into a forum full of penguin sympathizers. Pathetic. You all have to resort to foolish copouts to avoid the superior beast >_>

I say the Camel would win, because as the challenged it would be allowed to dictate the place of battle. Ie. desert. We'll see how long a polar bears lasts at near the equator...

Baby penguins are adorable though! The bigger ones not nearly as much. And unless the penguins are ninjas they can't win (like megapenguin's post)

I wonder if this has been done before:

I'd say an elephant would stomp anything to death, but the hippo kills more people per year than any other creature

This does not change the fact that one swipe from a polar bear's claw could fell even the mightiest camel.

Put it in the water, The Great white would kick its ass.

Or put it in the desert. It'd cook to death.

EDIT: Hang on...Isnt this a VS thread?[/B]

The polar bear's nimble and agile frame combined with its thick skin would allow it to dodge an elephant stomping with ease. The elephant is a formidable foe, but its lack of agility would hamper it in one-on-one combat with the mightiest creature in the world.

And hippos may kill people, but polar bears kill hippos.

Ebola could kick a polar bear's ass any day.

But, if you're going to insist on larger organisms, I'd give a crocodile my vote over the bear. The crocodile can swim too, it's also very strong, and even has some natural armor (to a limited extent), but it uses stealth to catch victims, the bear would never see it coming before it got deathrolled.

An elephant could beat a polar bear, easily. An adult saltwater crocodile probably could, too.

The rules of the fight would be to pit the creatures head-to-head. There would be no elements of surprise or stealth. This is a no-holds barred contest of brute strength. If the polar bear were able to avoid the crocodile's jaws, its victory would almost be assured.
