TL;DR of the few hours of gameplay I had with this, and based on further experiences my brother had with it, I can say we are both disappointed.
1. I dislike the fact that once again we are playing a whole adventure switching and playing between characters other then Dante. I feel like it dilutes the gameplay combat because now I have to wrap my head around how to play each character, when really they should design the whole game around only Dante. Who asked for Nero to come back?
2. Speaking of Nero, I feel here he kinda plays a bit worse then he did in DMC 4 and because of the new mechanic his is given, the Robot arms called Devil Breakers which gives you combat abilities like a shockwave, a jumping air attack, or a homing missile and they are all very powerful. The issue is these things are expandable while being valueable at the sametime. The robot arms break if he get hit by an enemy as you are using it or if you press a certain button that detonates it creating an AOE attack that throws off enemies. The point is there are as expendable as the weapons you use in Breath of the Wild. And the worse thing is you cannot switch between the different arms in combat, so you are stuck with that one certain arm unless you destroy it to use the next in line one.
3. I don't know whether this has always been the case in the series, but I feel this is the most button mashy combat Devil May Cry has ever been. 2 of Dante's new weapons are so overpowered that all you have to do is just keep pressing the button over and over again so you can keep performing this continuous attack that goes on and on. And don't get me started on the new playable character V and how he fights.
4. From what I have seen from this game so far, I am not a fan of its environmental art design because it all just looks and feels boring and unmemorable. Its all just featureless city streets, building hallways, ruins, and bland looking demon worlds. I mean I find Devil May Cry 1 the best game in terms of the locations you go into because it felt gothic and dark, like a Castlevania game. Here I don't even know where we are enough to care. Heck even the graphics weren't as special despite the fact this is running on the RE engine. And I feel like this could have been on the Xbox 360 if I didn't know.
5. Demon/Monster designs are also lame looking, the new ones anyway, but although they brought back monsters from the older games that I feel were more memorable like the Scissor wielding Grim Reaper/Wraiths, and the Shadow Cats, no puppets as far as I know.
6. And so far I am not as invested in the story because lets just say they try to pull of Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction style of pacing where the story cuts to various point in the timeline. Its not all in chronological order.
7. Dante still plays like he did in DMC 4, which annoys me because why do we have to switch between the 4 stances of Gunslinger, Swordmaster, Trickster , and Royal Guard? You think they would streamline Dante's moveset at this point to give us the most versatile Dante yet. I mean I was playing this game thinking it had a block button like Ninja Gaiden and God of War, but no.
8. SO MANY LOADING SCREENS!!! LONG ONES AT THAT. IT IS 2019, AND WE ARE STILL SUFFERING SHIT THAT HAS PLAGUED GAMING SINCE 2001!!! Its not Sonic 06 level of bad, but still, its annoying.
In the end I was kinda disappointed. And that's only of the 5 hours I put into this game.
