...and I'm disappointed. The game was short. I played it about halfway through and then set it aside to pick up another game. It was short too, and once I finished it I picked up CoD again and finished it that night.

Now the game was a blast, and granted I haven't played it online yet, but with all the hype over CoD(This is the first one I've played), I was expecting more.

So what is it that everyone likes so much about this game to see fit to rant about it for months at a time?

All I can say is this:

"Some people just can't be pleased..."

I'm willing to bet that if it was any longer some people would complain about it being too long. Just look at the game for its own merits instead of wishing for more, and then get the sequel.

As for what I like about it, it's epic, action-packed, well written, and believeable while still holding an action movie aesthetic to it. The music was awesome too.

Other people like the multiplayer... I usually avoid FPS multiplayer like the plague, though.

As everyone has already stated: Multiplayer. I too found the length of the Single Player to be a bit disappointing though. But then again, that leaves less time until you play the multiplayer.

The campaign its like a dessert, its small and sweet, the multiplayer is the main course, and now i've made myself hungry, damn it all.

Between Martyrdom, Last Stand and lolicopters, I found the Single Player preferable to the Multiplayer at times.

Thank god for Hardcore mode which thankfully makes helicopters more rare.

Same here. Call of Duty's single player has always been pretty good (even the Treyarch ones).

Multiplayer was fun except all the campers and stupid servers... I don't see what people have against Martyrdom? Is it really that hard to not walk over a body for a few seconds after you kill it? Especially on non-hardcore servers, you have a indicator that even tells you the grenade is there... I love the thing... you get the noob campers that hide behind a wall, go around the wall, they shoot you and they don't move, then the nade gets them... Last Stand I find annoying, mostly because if you shoot the guy, they go into Last Stand, and someone else kills them, they get the credit for the kill... Helicopters aim is way too accurate...

World at War, multiplayer never really worked well for me since I got it off Steam... single player was awesome and boring... Russian campaign was amazing, the American one was boring quick... and the banzi! thing got annoying after the first million times...

The original Call of Duty's are much better. Try them. Or do the multiplayer if you want. I didn't see what was so great about Call of Duty 4, but I've heard the multiplayer was good.

I like it because it has a perfected and polished albeit short SP campaign. The MP Has given it replayability for about a year and a half. But I'd have to say the SP was the single best thing it had to offer, so if you didn't like it, it's just not your thing, or you got overhyped. It's worth noting that I do believe it deserves the hype it gets.

Any review could have told you the single player was short. They also would have told you that the best part is probably the multiplayer.

The campaign is indeed rather short.

But the game really shines in multiplayer.

It is very tough at first and you will get destroyed by the pros but after a day or two worth of play you start to learn the maps and weapons and you will have a ball.

Nothing beats the buzz of finally unlocking the G36C for the second time and getting ready to annihalate...

It is IMO by far the best online shooter I have played. I can't go back to Halo now after COD4, it just feels slow and clunky in comparison.

I cannot enjoy CoD4. I never tried the multiplayer, but that's because I just found every part of it to be too... normal? Mediocre? There was nothing that set it apart from any other game out there.

The weapons are boring and sound like pea-shooters with silencers on them, and even though you can get hit by ten bullets and live, if a grenade explodes anywhere near you, you're either almost dead or dead instantly.

The story didn't interest me, and I really tried to enjoy the game. I tried twice, actually, and I just didn't find it fun. It was just... shoot them guys, then those guys, then listen to your squad leader, then shoot some more guys... it was just same old same old. And I have games like L4D and TF2 to play online, and that's plenty for me.

I think my biggest complaint is the guns in the game. They literally put me off playing, because they're so boring and so "normal", except that they sound AWFUL. I want a gun that almost deafens me as I shoot it! I guess that's because I have an awesome speaker setup, though.

To be honest, I've never really enjoyed the CoD games anyway. They've always seemed a little normal to me; just the same shooter I've played over and over, except with guns I don't enjoy. But the games are quite popular, and I'm not so sure that they're as popular on the PC as they are on consoles.

Anyway, I guess if you like shooting things you could enjoy CoD4. I just need a little difference in my shooters, and for me, CoD4 failed to bring difference to the table. I've never been a fan of war-games anyway, really. I'd sooner be the super-hero rather than a normal soldier, even if the normal soldier can take a million bullets.

lol cod is a multiplayer game with a tacked on sp mode.
Really? Because when I, you know, actually played the campaign I found a surprising and fun, though short, experience, that had more than enough good ideas to stand on its own.

Oh and if you want to extend the life of the SP, play it on Veteran. That should definitely add some hours onto the campaign.

I honestly have no idea, I played the game and was thouroughly unimpressed. So as far as to why it has remained popular, I would have to say because it's simple and safe.
